I’ve had the “Rear Hatch Ajar” warning four or five times already. I’m closing it pretty firmly without slamming it shut, but it seems to want a more aggressive effort than my last car. It’s easily corrected, but only by reopening and closing it again; giving it an extra shove isn’t enough.

Anyone else have the same experience? Do you think I just need to get used to a harder close than I’ve had in the past? Is this something that you’ve seen “break in” over time? Or do you think it may need an adjustment at the dealership?

The BS is brand new. Maybe you are closing it too lightly (maybe not).

Being that your BS is new what I would do is stop by the dealer service department and ask one of the service writers if either they or a tech/Forman can watch you close the hatch to see if you are closing it correctly because of the issue you are having. Maybe there is a latch alignment issue. Also ask to try a hatch on another BS on the lot to see if it closes any easier. I would think that there is not a break in period for the hatch to close properly.

Just a bit of advice in addition to checking the hatch is adjusted properly . . . be careful if you push on the hatch to close it if it “hangs up” the hatch can be dented/bent by putting too much pressure on it, as some others have reported. I’ve shut mine with an extra push, but am very careful where I push on it.

Check that the rear floor is seated properly and pushed forward all the way.
Hadn’t thought of that. I have pulled it out completely and replaced it recently.

I’ve had the rear hatch ajar warning 2 or 3 times, mostly after first getting the BS. Coming from a power liftgate to a manual took some practice to get the proper closing force. Agree with other posters here on avenues to pursue.

I pulled out my spare tire when I got my sport, just to check everything, when it went back in it was a little crooked and the floor was lifted a bit, the hatch wouldn’t close easily. It sounds like the new models don’t have a spare, but if you stuffed the spare tire well with tools or supplies the same thing could be your issue.

Completely agree! I am very careful where i place my hand when pushing on the hatch to close it. I gently push on the bottom of the hatch in the center bellow the hatch release buttons where the sheet metal is reinforced. if not careful the sheet metal can easily be dented.

Same with my 2025 including the drivers door. Everything has settled down now, it just takes a little time.
That's kind of where my thinking was going. The front passenger door's done it once or twice to the wife. I think it's just the seals need to be compressed a bit over time. I guess that's a good thing really, better watertight integrity from the get go.

Check to make sure your hatch seals are seated correctly. Mine came out a ways and made it hard to close the hatch. Nothing wrong with slamming the hatch. I've pushed mine closed many times, but never on a flat area.
