My first real "ding" or dent in my BS has come on the rear hatch door. I think a mechanic did it, but how could I prove that? I was given a quote of $300 to remove the ding. I'll go see that guy next week. I have found some molding to protect the area above the "BRONCO" lettering. I did that on my old truck and it has lasted decades.
Anyway I was looking at other BS vehicles around town. Almost all of them have similar dings. Is this a common thing? Should I just expect a dinged up rear hatch door? Maybe the molding is a better idea than a repair that will soon be useless because the next ding is on the way?

its also right below the grip for the glass liftgate. I wonder if when closing too hard someone had a bag of groceries or something also in that hand? do you ever use the glass? that's definitely not from a rock, and a shopping cart or something like that wouldn't be that high.

pictures would be helpful. not sure how that area would get dinged
Exactly my thought. Or, more like "WTH, how did someone ding it there?" But now I've seen others.

These cars have thin skin to save weight. Any push with significant weight behind it anywhere on the exterior skin can potentially cause a dent. You should let everyone who uses your car know to never push anywhere on the skin. No push is necessary to close any door, hatch, lid, etc. The liftgate may be closed by lowering until you feel the springs pulling down, then let it go. The springs will generate enough speed to close and latch it from there. If it doesn't latch don't push on it. Reopen and release from a greater height. Same goes for the hood; I lower it to about a foot remaining, then let it go. If it doesn't fully latch do not press down on it. Reopen and release it from a greater height.

Mine also has a ding exactly like yours above and to the left of the “B” Can pop it in and out super easy but always rests popped in. Drives me insane. All I can think is I went to put some groceries in through the window real quick or I shut the door with my hand in the wrong spot.

You just described most new vehicles, not just the BS. I’m rough on mine and have no dents from closing doors or the liftgate. Regular closing of doors by pushing anywhere on the car won’t cause a dent.

I use a touch-less car wash stall at a local self wash with the idea to keep the non-touch-less machines from beating the the body panels and scratch the paint. It doesn't always do a very good job (barely gets the bird droppings and bugs off), but does have a spot free rinse and blowers for only $8

I felt like i had it out by pouring hot watter on it and pulling with a suction cup. But as the panel cooled, the dent reappeared. Not a solution.

Is the $300 for paintless dent removal? If not, you should ask your dealer about it. My dealer has an outside contractor come in for these repairs once a week. I have seen it work wonders on my car. I have used it on the hood where after parking under a tree acorns dropping left a couple of dents and when a shopping cart flew into a door panel.

I just went out to the carport & looked at my wife's BS/BB & it has no dent anywhere on the hatch door. The only time we open it is when we go food shopping to put in & remove the grocery bags. When I or my wife closes it, (with the hatch in the full up position) we either grab the corner bottom of the hatch or the handle on the inside & slam it shut.
