Ok everyone… more specifically @rugedraw… my lady friends daughter tried opening the passenger door, angrily, and pulled on the front of the door handle and the two pieces of the door handle separated… is this fixable… or does it need to be replaced?

If it needs to be replaced, can I get some help with how to do that?

Thanks in advance.

If you open the door there is a rubber grommet handle height facing the rear of the vehicle. If you pop that out you can get access to the set screw that keeps the handle in place. I think it's just a phillips tip. Allowing you to remove the handle may help you get a better look at what's going on. Might be able to pop that peeve back in

Thank you!!! I was hoping there was an easy way to get to it. If there wasn’t, I was going to go for a diagram of how to remove it all.

I appreciate you buddy.

Pshew… well, if it comes down to it… it’s only $20 to replace the door handle for me. That makes me feel better if we can’t fix the one.

Man, I've never seen someone have to take apart their vehicle more often that you. 🤣 Not sure if removing the window motor is necessary, but attached is everything PTS shows in reference to the door handle replacement.

I noticed that mine is getting loose after 3.5 years. Seems like a design issue. In all my years, I don’t recall any door handles coming loose after a few years or ever for that matter.

Ok - I learned how to fix it today.

Also learned what not to do. For reference, if you can’t push the door handle back in, you do not, and I repeat do not need, to remove the whole inside of the door panel (which I thought the plastic on the door panel was just a cover, nope. It’s also the window regulator). lol

A flat head screw driver through an access hole in the door panel, and pulling the lever to allow the handle to slide back in place is all that’s needed.

Oh well, lessons were learned. Should be an easy fix for hers now.

@Frenchy906 which access hole to use for: “flat head screw driver through an access hole in the door panel”
Probably the one at far top left of your pic (where the door handle is of course) with the yellow sticker half pulled up?

Yes.

From there, you can see the two pieces that grab the rearmost part of the door handle.

I’ll draw it up with my keyboard the best I can…

It’s kind of like this —>

(
)

And the rear part of the door handle has to go around the let ones (in this instance) and then behind them… but the right one kind of locks it in place…

Hard to describe. I figured it out, and then saw a video of a guy doing it from the front of the door… I obviously didn’t want to take it back out to try that method lol.

What I did was pulled the two left most (from the outside of the car) tabs inward (towards the front of the car) until it kind of held in place, and then went and pushed the handle in place.

Took like thirty seconds once I figured it out. 🤦🏻‍♂️

That makes sense thanks!!
There should be a space on that “(” it’s not directly behind it. There is enough of a gap the handle can fit between… but only when it’s not engaged. Haha

I’m just glad I fixed it. I was in a bit of a panic.
