An example of underground splicing a pulp cable in a manhole for your viewing pleasure.
Probably give me nightmares now.
Yikes! And I thought wiring up the avionics in my plane was a nightmare. You win that contest!

I had several issues going on, not just the radio going to a spanish speaking am setting. Mine would not save XM stations, Nav destinations, would no longer connect to my wifi because it would not save my password, and a few other issues. The update was done when I had it in for the battery charging recall. Just got the CPS letter yesterday. So I guess mine was on that recall list,
What Build version of SYNC 3.4 were you running before taking it in?

?I grudgingly accept.

But my life wasn't dependent on my splicing capabilities. Although quality work was always paramount for me. Some guys were good with, "if it talks it's good enough."

Wasn't hard to spot their work.

I don't know. It started after an update, then wifi password woud not save, so could no longer do any more updates, Don't have the work order from the dealer update. It was done when the nation wide hack hit the dealships. They couldn't write or print work orders, it was the first day of the shut down so it was pretty chaotic, they had no idea who was scheduled for service.

My life only depends on my wiring skills in the clouds--when I can see a horizon I don't really need flight instruments. And rest assured, I didn't trust my wiring to fly in the clouds until I had thoroughly tested (and tested, and retested, and so on...) the instruments while flying on bright, sunny days!

When you are on CarPlay are you positive it’s the radio turning on? Reason I ask is iPhone has a habit of playing music on its own.
Yes, it is the radio.

Many have reported their infotainment system starts up with the radio as the selected source instead of the last-used source (USB stick, phone-based program, etc.). I use Android Auto with a couple of different apps providing audio:
Your infotainment system will remain on, playing whatever source you have selected after you shut off the engine until you open the door. Opening the door shuts down SYNC. For my car, if SYNC is playing a source when I open the door it will try to access that source when I restart. If it cannot access that source it will switch to the radio.

The solution that works for me:
  1. Turn SYNC's audio system OFF (press the power button) prior to connecting a phone and activating Android Auto.
  2. Prior to opening the door after engine shut down (which shuts down SYNC), I disconnect my phone from SYNC.
This ensures NO audio source is playing at SYNC shut down, therefore SYNC starts up with audio turned off. Android Auto starts automatically after I connect my phone, and I can select my desired audio programming on my phone using the AA interface.

I would suggest those of you who do not use Android Auto or CarPlay try some experimentation of your own.
Thanks for posting this. I've had this problem for some time and just never dealt with it. Just turned off the radio.

“In my case the radio turns on sometimes on its own even if I am on CarPlay, as long as I am not listening to anything. “
Yes, it is the radio.
I’ve not seen anyone yet say their iPhone is plugged in, the vehicle Radio is off, CarPlay is running (with no audio playing) and suddenly the vehicle Radio turns on.

I can suggest:
1. Make sure iPhone is running 17.6.1 or latest iOS.
2. Install Sync 3.4.23188 via USB Device in the vehicle if not already installed.
(Because: Sync 3.4.22251 has erratic behavior involving the radio)
3. Have the Dealership or their Mobile service install Customer Satisfaction Program 24B47 if applicable to your VIN.

However, other iPhone users have stated that the vehicle radio turns on by itself when the iPhone timer or alarm goes off, when an iPhone message is received (but for this one turning off iPhone message notifications worked to stop the radio from turning on), when looking at Apps on the iPhone, and just randomly the radio turns on.

Google has a variety of answers that might help your situation since mostly this looks to be iPhone and not Sync related.
