It’s all in the owners manual.
You guys should read it more.
Had mine for 18 months and 20,000 miles.
My owners manual is still on the back of the toilet :’P
The OP has stated several times in this thread that their BS is going into Park in situations where the owner’s manual states it should stay in gear. Maybe you should read the thread?

Slammed into park, :’) It does not slam.
Next time when you are backing like that be looking at your gearshift button.
You will see it calmly rotate to park.
Just turn it back to reverse with the door open.
I used to back like that all the time. But I made myself use the rear camera exclusively until I mastered the thing.
I don’t like doing things that activate safety features.
If people used mirrors they wouldn't have this need to open a door while backing up.

My Badlands does not do this.
I tried going into both Drive end Reverse with the driver's side door open.
A warning flashed on the dash that I was not in Park, but the car continued to stay in Drive/Reverse as I had chosen.
I can second this, my badlands does not do this either.

We had a related issue the other day.

My wife was in the driver's seat, engine running, in Drive, foot on brake, door closed. Not sure about the seatbelt -- ordinarily she would have had it on, but she was planning to open the gate on her way out, so it may have been off.

Just as she took her foot off the brake to leave, and the BS BL began to roll (downhill grade) we heard the nasty sound of the locking tang skipping across the indents.

IOW, the computer decided to shift from Drive to Park while the Badlands was in motion.

Is that normal? Has anyone had that happen?

The downhill grade has me wondering if the electric parking brake was applied. However my guess is you knew for sure after the incident the vehicle went from Drive to Park. Haven’t heard of a case like that.

Did it drive normal after that?

Yep, everything normal before and since. She told me that's the only time that happened.

Hopefully it's the last time, because if it causes damage there's a good chance the dealership will blame us.

The brake was off. I don't think she sets the parking brake to park in the garage, but even if it was on, it automatically releases when it's in drive. She had backed out of the garage and then pulled forward a few feet. Her window was down so we could talk. When she was ready to leave she took her foot off the brake and it began to roll slowly down the hill. The Badlands had just begun to roll when it started making that ugly tell-tale sound. She hit the brake and it had shifted to Park.

I appreciate the safety aspect of the feature, as described here:

Ford Bronco Sport My car automatically goes into park! 1717375119514-78

It's easy to see how that feature could be beneficial..

However, what my wife was doing should not have initiated "Automatic Return to Park" (ARP).

Regardless, ARP should not operate when the vehicle is in motion. It will not stop the BS from rolling, unless it is going very slow -- slow enough for the locking tang to engage a detent.

Was the car running the entire time? Here's what's happened to me a time or two: You roll to a stop to talk to someone for a minute, so you leave it in drive. The auto stop/start system shuts down the engine. When you're ready to go you forgot the ASS system shut down the engine, so you push the START button. Instead of starting the engine you shut down the car and the transmission automatically shifts to park.

Mark is saying it was another case of ASS bite

Interesting scenario, I can see how that might happen.

In our case, the engine was running the entire time.

She turns off ASS immediately. It's possible she had not done that yet, but it's generally the first thing she does after starting it. I do not recall the engine shutting down. I'm still used to our older cars, so the engine turning off would have gotten my attention.
