Having gone thru the same thing in my last two VWs ( so down with them), I’m disappointed to hear this. My understanding of recent battery purchases is that they often have at least a 3-4 yr way. Was this not the case?
The factory battery is under warranty if the vehicle warranty is still intact. I had my battery replaced under warranty.

I believe the OP wasn't able to get to the dealer because of timing and just purchased a new battery on his own.

The new AGM battery I bought at O'Reilly's had a two-year warranty. It seems car batteries just don't last as long as they used to. But today's cars place more demand on batteries with new technologies like start/stop.

True. I wanted my vehicle running that day. I figured Ford would pro-rate the old one and charge an inflated price for the new one, so I might just as well buy one and not have to go through all the hoops with dealer service.

My Badlands battery was acting up in the same time frame as yours (19 months).
The battery is under factory warranty, you could have gotten a replacement for free.
The replacement battery is a Motorcraft AGM which is better than the original installed battery.
I have not had any issue's since replacement.
I was thinking same. It’s a warranty item.

Look for "Manual Park Release" in your Owner's Manual.
So, just had to replace my battery too. I do miss the simpler times when I could just push start my little toyota. I didnt even think about how you might be locked in park if your battery dies. Thanks for the help and info abour resetting BMS everyone! And replacing it was a bit more challenging like you all say. The guy at AutoZone said something similar, factory batteries don't really last long, especially in hot weather. And this car may be a 21, but the battery was sitting for a while and is at least 3 years old. He advised that I set a calendar reminder for the battery warranty at about 2.5 years on my phone and just come on back and get a new one before this one wears out.

Battery Sensor Reset (Battery Management System (BMS) Reset):
When you install a new battery, reset the battery sensor by doing the following:
1. Switch ignition on, and leave the engine off.
Note: Complete Steps 2 & 3 within 10 seconds.
2. Flash the high beam headlamps five times, ending with the high beams off.
3. Press and release the brake pedal 3 times.
The battery warning lamp flashes 3 times to confirm that the reset is successful.

So I am dealling with a similar thing. However, I have my Ford Pass app that sends me notices "Remote Features Disabled to Preserve Battery"..because your battery charge level is low.
This has been happening for the last year. My Ford 2020 Ranger does the same thing and now my 2022 F250 does it sometimes- but I don't drive that one often- so it could be that.
When I told the service guy about it - he just said nothing they can do.
However, today I have a changer on my FE battery- came up 17% then 59%- I am going to charge it all today and see what happends next few weeks. My pool shop is about 10 mintues away- so it does short runs. I too have the lead battery- I will try to see if I get it replaced under warranty next visit- still waiting on parts for the "moaning breaks" issue.

I'd try to get the battery replaced sooner rather than later. The battery will leave you or others that may drive the BS stranded when you least likely expect it.
It's not like the past when you would have a slow cranking vehicle that would eventually start.
On the BS, it will either start or act completely dead.

A heads up. It's usually a really cold morning when your battery goes and mine was no exception on my 2021 BL. Battery gave no indication it was getting weak. When I got in the dash was black and start button made no noise. Tried a jump box I carry in back and it wouldn't work. Got out my decades old battery charger and it went up to 15 amps. As I was standing there wondering about putting this much charge into the battery, the circuit breaker on the charger kicked it off. So I decided my battery was dead.

Some disassembly required to remove battery. The battery has a lip all the way around to hold it tight. So you can't pull it straight up, it must slide out from the front. That means taking loose and removing the air box and intake as well as unplugging a couple of connections to sensors. There is a YouTube video available.

I'm not up to speed on current batteries with glass beads, but the one in my Bronco didn't have the latest generation. The guy at O'Reilly's pulled up the replacement and told me that my old battery is not shown for my vehicle. So I got the new one, installed and everything seems fine. Didn't lose any radio presets or anything from unit being without power. Just a heads up that when the battery goes it goes. You want be able to get it out of park to push out of the garage for jumpers. At least in happened at home and not out in the woods.
Did you look into a warranty replacement?

I choose to set the auto stop/start off after starting the engine. This way, the engine stays running at a red light, etc. Living in Florida in the summers, you need the A/C; allowing the engine to stop places a pit of a strain restarting, and even though the starters are more robust (double brushes and windings), the A/C compressor is not running when the engine is shut down.

The starter isn't used to restart the engine with start/stop. Computer injects fuel and air into the top center cylinder and fires the plug.

I usually turn off the start/stop, too.

Good to know, I thought it used the starter. Start/stop is one aspect of my Escape hybrid I miss.

Not sure this is true. You need three things to run an engine: fuel, spark, and compression. Injecting fuel and providing a spark, yes. But to get compression, you need the engine spinning. A starter provides that initial spin.

I'm going over to Google to see if you're correct. I may learn yet another thing today.

UPDATE: Ford and many others use a robust starter for the start/stop feature. Can be read here:

https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1109687_dont-start-stop-systems-wear-out-your-cars-starter

I also found that Mercedes uses a method of presurizing the transmission fluid to turn their torque converter to spin the engine to restart. Interesting that they would use a more complex method to start a stopped engine.

Other notes - If the A/C is running to cool down the interior, and you have temperature controlled A/C, the auto stop/start is disabled. If the engine temp is above normal temps, it is also disabled. There are several more sensors and guidelines that can disable auto stop/start without user intervention as well.

Update. My local Ford service asked if the vehicle had to be jumped started….I said no…they said it would be difficult to ask FORD for warranty if not. Plus I had added light accessories …So that voids the battery warranty. But can’t prove this was happening before those were installed.
Then I asked if they could install a AGM battery…..said no we don’t sell those here.
I already knew this was the response I would get.
Went to my local Interstate Battery store and picked up their top AGM with a 4 year warranty.
But they said to me…oh if you have stop/start function you should get the flooded battery…..I told them I can shut that off ..I have accessories.
