Just bought a 9 feet and 9 inches kayak and I am going to head down to the Animas River in Durango, Co. Looks like I can just slide the kayak with the back seats folded down. So, just wondering if anyone else has done this and how was it?

Also, any ideas other than sliding the ship into the back? Not going very far and attaching to the roof means finding some help.

So you are talking about driving with the rear gate open? How far is not far? What speed would you have to go?

Yes, the hatch is open and most of the time the drive is less than a mile. Also, want to be able to drive to a lake too.

I don’t see any problem, just keep some windows open as exhaust gases can flow into the cabin through the open hatch.. Tie down the hatch and and kayak and go have fun. You might need a red flag at the back if you’re going to be in traffic.

short drive is ok, but bill g is right about the fumes.
I rigged up a pvc ramp to get my 10" kayak on roof bc it wont fit otherwise.

A friend uses a small boat trailer to carry his. He has a Jeep with a hard top but is over 90 years old and not capable of using the roof. My solution is to use inflatable kayaks. Here is my Sea Eagle Razorlite 393RL. It is 12' 10". I also have an Advanced Frame Advanced Element around 10'. Both of them are in my cargo area now.

I made something like this to load my canoe on my truck out of some old tent poles I picked up at Saver's. I can load my canoe on my lifted Superduty by myself. 7251290775886023979
