I installed the JCR Hatch MOLLE Panel today. At first it’s a little intimidating since you have to remove the entire hatch interior panel, drill six holes, and mount the panel using carriage bolts and spacers. In practice, though, it really wasn’t that bad.

The panel is rock solid and gives me a great spot to mount gear that’s easy to access whenever the hatch is open. Now I just need to guess the odds on my wife getting hit in the head by the shovel before I actually use it to dig myself out 😆

Wife? I'm more worried about me.

I hope those struts are able to handle the extra weight.
Luckily that’s a fairly straightforward upgrade if required.

So far so good even on a cold day. I don’t plan on putting real heavy items up there but things do add up. Time will tell but I’m not too concerned.

You're correct, the struts struggle to keep the hatch up, even worse when it's loaded. Everything you attach there will hit you in the forehead, and if you have the cargo management shelf, like I do, you have space things out so it misses the shelf.

For whatever reason, once I attach something to mine, it pulls out the push pins and yes, I have replaced them with new ones

How do you like that shovel?
I like it for what it is. It’s the one I always have with me and it’s better than one of those fold trenching tool style shovels. I bring a full-size shovel mounted to my roof rack for longer trips in the dirt/mud. This one is good in the sand. It’s also very light which hopefully will give the hatch struts a fighting chance of staying open which so far has been no problem.

well that’s a bummer. I can see how those push in fasteners on the hatch panel might not be up to the task of holding additional weight.

it might be more trouble than it’s worth but I wonder if a couple of well nuts in place of the snap in fastners would hold better. Getting them in the right spot would be tricky though.

I was thinking riv-nuts and sandwich the molle and factory panel to the hatch. However, I'm trading the ole gal in so I'm removing it and plugging the holes with flat push pins.
