I have a 2021 Badlands. My phone used to sync as soon as I got in my Bronco, no problem. About two weeks ago it stopped connecting, I can't even manually connect it. The only thing that worked was deleting it from the dash and then reconnecting it. But that only works until the next time I drive my Bronco. Any ideas?

I would consider that a blessing! However, the update to your phone or Sync is not in rythm.

Can you let us know some more information?

What is the iOS version currently installed on the iPhone?

What is the Build version of SYNC?
Check the Build version of SYNC 3.4
On the the center screen tab on Settings
Scroll left or right and tap on General
Scroll down to About SYNC
Tap on About SYNC

It’s like you never upgraded the Sync software from the factory installed version

For ‘21-‘24, this is latest Sync:

SYNC 3.4 23188 (available Sept 2023)

Is there any advantage to using SYNC over CarPlay? I've always used CarPlay and found SYNC not as user friendly.

CarPlay requires SYNC. Or are you referring to the built-in Ford Connected Nav?

I thought it was the option to use your phone through SYNC rather than CarPlay. I can turn off CarPlay and use the media on my phone on SYNC, but it doesn't seem as user friendly as CarPlay. I was just wondering if there were any advantages to using SYNC.

I don't believe my vehicle came with the Ford Connected Nav.

SYNC is the native infotainment system in Ford vehicles. You can use the built-in navigation system, if you purchased that option. You can connect your phone via SYNC and gain the ability to send/receive text messages, make and receive phone calls, and access audio services installed on your phone. It also includes basic AM/FM radio and SiriusXM if you have a subscription. SYNC 3 and 4/4a are QNX based systems, built by Blackberry

CarPlay is an alternative system from Apple that uses bluetooth and wifi to connect other your car. (Android Auto is the Google product basically equivalent to CarPlay, but for phones running the Android operating system.) Both CarPlay and Android Auto utilize your phone to serve up navigation services, texting and phone services and add other services (audio, some food service, gas prices, etc).

In my experience, the SYNC platform offers fewer options than CarPlay, and, at least for me, CarPlay seems to be more user friendly and robust.

SYNC 3.4 or SYNC 4 are the operating systems that controls your infotainment system. CarPlay and Android Auto run on top of SYNC.

Just like any other device, the software needs to be updated to operate properly.

I installed the updated software today. I had to remove my phone and then refind it to get a connection. I guess I'll find out tomorrow if it still conects automatically.

It worked for two days. And then it didn't. Lost connectability again. I had to delete it from the head unit and then refind it. Any other ideas?

I have been having the same issue intermittently. My wife and I both have iPhones 15 with the latest version of IOS 26. Just the other day we started out for first time that day and my phone did not connect. Went into the phone menu and told sync to connect my phone. Sync just kept searching for the phone until it stopped searching. I pulled over and shut the BS off and tried again. No luck. Shut the phone off and tried again no luck. Told sync to connect wifes iPhone 15 also no luck, sync just kept searching for her phone. Finally just gave up and continued driving without the phone connected. After shopping with the BS sitting awhile the phone connected as soon as I started the BS. Has not happened since the last time the other day. We were near the dealer and if it the phone still did not connect I was going to stop in and ask how to do the sync soft reset.

There is also a TSB 24-2184 June 6, 2024 but I recall the dealer once telling me it did not apply to my BS but I may go back to them again.

To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to update the accesory protocol interface module (APIM) software.

and Customer Satisfaction Program 24B47
REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM

In all the affected vehicles, due to an error in the SYNC software, you may experience SYNC system
instability concerns and/or a failure to preserve certain settings across ignition cycles. This may result in a black infotainment screen that does not affect rear view camera, incorrect language setting, erased or unsaved radio presets, and potential inability to perform software updates.
