After arguing with two dealers I finally found one that was willing to take the time to listen t my concerns. Had been noticing a hissing sound under load and intermittent exhaust odor under the hood as well as in the cabin. I personally could see a carbon track at the edge of the heat shield on the catalytic converter. Brought it to two different dealers who swore they heard nothing... even pulled mine up next the the loaner that they gave me to prove my point... they didnt care. Finally got a dealer to take the time and follow though.. low and behold... a cracked catalytic converter. Noticed it at 34 k miles and managed to get it covered as a pre existing condition at 37 k miles.

While its in the shop I am going to have them put on a fresh set of rubber. I love the BFG KO2's but the noise has gotten obnoxious no matter how much I rotate and balance them. Tons of great tread left and they have been awesome off road. I have a RC lift and i think i'm going to go from a 245/65/17 to a 245/70/17... still not set on a brand or tread pattern yet. Anyone running that size? What brand tire are you running and how do you like it?

I second what Dude said above. From all accounts that I’ve seen 245/65r17 is the biggest you can go. Anything larger will surely rub with any articulation and lock to lock. If road noise is main concern I would say stay at same size but different tread type more focused for on road than off.

235/70/17 Goodyear workhorse 30.1 diameter, on mine for 15 months no issues

The difference in 235 over 245 is the width, that makes the 235 a non issue on rubbing.

Correct. What I was assuming was that increasing your aspect ratio would cause the wheel to rub the wheel well. However it seems I was incorrect in that thought.

Wow! Reading the thread title had me worried for my cats. Was there a new disease running wild in the feline population? How soon does one notice symptoms? Can it be prevented? And most importantly, was the injury so bad that one had to completely step away from the pet and buy new tires?

Shwoo. Relieved. Glad to be wrong.

Well, catalytic converter is replaced. Lots off fussing from Ford corporate. Apparently there was a hairline crack at the back side of the flange on the exhaust pipe where it meets the turbo. Ford made them send multiple pictures and pull vehicle data. Either way... its taken care of so I'm happy. :like:

Tires... 245/70/17 absolutely zero rubbing even at different angles of suspension travel and full steering lock with an RC lift.
