I cannot speak for the person you are asking but typically here in the desert where summers are above 110°F for months on end I average about 2 year battery life - generally I think of the battery as a replaceable item and get a new battery every 2 years like clockwork. That’s just me and how I roll. Too many failed batteries to go much over 2 years - it’s risky,

Except for a new vehicle … for whatever reason on a new battery I generally get over 36 month life - it’s like the battery wants to make it thru the new vehicle warranty period before failing. ?
That kind of excessive heat is definitely not good for batteries. Still, 2 years seems short but better safe than sorry.

IDK if there is anything to it, but some mfrs make batteries that they claim do better in hot climates. Have you tried any of them?

Needless to say, there's no point in waiting until a battery fails to replace it, but in our area (not excessively cold or hot) 5 years (more with a BT) is a reasonable expectation.

Luckily, in most cases, batteries fail gradually. The owner will (or should) notice the engine beginning to turn over slower than normal.

It’s actually closer to 1 year but I knew if I said 1 year there would be some real pushback

And yes with every vehicle I owned there was early warning .. generally only one warning sign so the rule is drop all other plans and go immediately to get a new battery

I’ve tried nearly all types of batteries even those with the claim of great for hot climates, they all last nearly the same amount of time.

Not to be contrary, just curious -- where does the 2 year replacement come from?

There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but I've always heard 4-6 years, and with a BT, our batteries have lasted 8-10 years.
Really hot and really humid weather. Salty too. I've seen Interstates go about 3 years. Maybe a little longer, depending on how much its driven. But crappy batteries don't last long around here.

That's what I suspected -- that the batteries marketed for use in hot (or cold) climates might not perform much better than others.

Needless to say, service life ranges for batteries are estimates based on nationwide averages.

From what I've read (going back decades) there is a bell curve, with majority of flooded lead-acid (FLA) batteries lasting 4-5 (maybe 6) years.

Of course there will be exceptions. Service life is affected by many factors, including:

* Temperature extremes
* Excessive vibration
* Loose/missing hold-down hardware
* Charging system operation
* How often (if ever) the battery is severely discharged
* Degree of parasitic drain
* Is a BT used?

If a person is routinely using their starting battery (with the engine off) to run an inverter for power tools; then leaving the battery at 10% SOC for weeks; and lives in Yuma -- they are going to be at one end of the bell curve.

Someone else who uses a BT to maintain 100% SOC, doesn't drive much, lives in an area with a moderate climate, and doesn't use auto stop/start will be at the other end.

Probably in May. Some owners already made their appointment for that

I’m hoping local dealerships will do the software updates at my house with their mobile service but I’ve had one tell me they never do software updates via mobile service due to the unpredictability in the time it takes. Other owners said they did get their dealership to do software updates via mobile service.
I'm sitting at my Ford dealer now getting my Ford Performance Wheels installed and a full synthetic oil change. I asked if they can do the recall. I was told they know about the recall but that recall isn't in the system yet. My VIN has to show a recall to have it done. So no.

Also just an FYI .. in NHTSA‘s Part 573 Safety Recall Report, NHTSA Recall No. : 24V-267,
Ford Recall No. : 24S24

“Notification to dealers is expected to occur on May 13, 2024”

“Mailing of owner notification letters is expected to begin May 13, 2024 and is expected to be completed by May 17, 2024”

“Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the BCM and PCM calibrations updated. There will be no charge for this service.”

Early bird gets the worm but in your case today it’s wait abit more time. ?

It’s good to try, a few others made their appointment for May already.
I’m going to wait until summer ends maybe October or November. Let Ford work out the kinks in the software with the early adopters.

I guess I'll wait till the rush dies down too. My BS it's usually Sita a lot and is on a battery tender so I don't feel I'll have any problems.

That’s right, with your low mileage and use of the BT you should be fine

EDIT: 5/24/2024 update, “My dealer said as of today (May 24 2024) the program (24S24 Recall) has been resumed.” … contact your dealership for up-to-date information.

I just got off the phone with a Ford dealer. I asked if they would do a mobile service on the 24S24 update and was told yes, they do mobile but the update was paused. I told the rep that Ford resumed the update and they didn't know. I was told I'll get a call for the mobile update when available.
