Hey Forum,

So I moved to the UK with my 2021 BS Badlands and up until now it has been more or less free of any major issues. I took it to a local garage to get a mandatory safety inspection and slight light modification done on it and then recieved a call from the garage saying that it won't accelerate when the gas pedal is depressed and that their diagnostic tool throws a gas pedal sensor code. We took their advice and let them order a random new pedal off ebay that they believed would work (apparently they just could not source an original Ford part here in the UK) installed it and it worked fine for about 10 mins before not working again. They are now saying we need to source an official Ford pedal from America ourselves. I apologize right now, my wife had to deal with them for all of this as I have been at work so there are definitely gaps in my info and explanation.

All I am asking from the group is:

A) Has anyone else had a gas pedal sensor error/malfunction (couldn't find any by searching)?

And/or

B) Does their solution sound legit, do I just need to find a way to source a official North American pedal to solve this?

I know people are likely to ask for more info, I'll pry what I can from my wife's brain but really any advice on the problem or insight into a solution sill be appreciated. Maybe an actual Ford rep on here can step in?

Thanks Forum!

has any consideration been given to the different modes
sport vs eco and how it may affect the pedal sensor
perhaps there is a link to the malfunction

and slight light modification done on it
What was the slight modification? Are there any modifications such as a pedal commander, etc? There should be pinpoint test(s) associated with the DTC that should be performed by the shop to determine what the cause is. Cheers!

The slight light modification was the addition of a rear fog light at the back, a mandatory requirement in the UK due to all the, well...fog.

That is what I'm thinking, but, alas, can't prove shit myself, not mechanically savvy enough. What I will do is pull it from them and take it elsewhere. See what another garage thinks.

I'll post some when I get the fucker back. Don't hold your breathe, it will be underwhelming for sure. Just one small one, lower right side I believe.

I had a similar issue with my 2018 EcoSport. Just driving happily down the street and the accelerator stopped functioning. I was running a Peddle Max (the same one I used on my 2016 Focus and is now in my 2021 Bronco Sport) Upon further inspection, I found that the plug wasn't fully engaged. I just snapped it in and it was fine after that.

If the accelerator worked when you brought it in, then failed after they did their work - most likely that something they did caused the new fault. Try and find a UK Ford dealer and I would think they would have access to the correct manuals to fix the issue. I’ll bet there is nothing wrong with the original part (Hopefully they gave you the old part and didn’t throw it out)
