I'm impressed with the coverage and level of detail, though it's a bit laggy when browsing around or building a route (same-same for the browser, in my experience). Once it's build though, it performs as well as any nav app.

I'd definitely recommend it, but whether it's worth $100 a year is a personal choice. I think AllTrails is the only viable alternative, or a subscription to one of the Garmin topos (along with a Garmin device to use them, of course). It all boils down to how far off the beaten path you want to go, and how often.

I had an account a few years ago and was really disappointed with the number of maps/trails it has in my area. I’m in Portland Oregon and there are no lack of off road trails within an hour drive but OnX was seriously lacking most of them. Maybe it’s improved but it seemed like they rely on their users to create content.

It's definitely not buggy now! I'm your neighbor over here in Idaho and I am impressed will all the trails it has listed. (There is a few I thought only my previous Jeep club knew about.) Ive loaded\accessed OnX on a Andriod tablet and using Firefox on my PC both work smoothly!

I think there are options to add trails?

It does look like there are a lot of them already, but not sure if it's complete.

I think it's a neat app but I haven't been able to get anywhere in Texas with trails to try it on. I think I'm on my 2nd subscription so I doubt I can do the free thing.

When I did try a trail ride, I made a route with GAIA GPS. At the time (couple of years ago), I kind of preferred GAIA but the route I made took way too long, got me into private property, and I kept losing the map while on the trail. Not a good thing to do when it's my first time in the Texas Hill Country and it's getting dark.

I'd forgotten about Gaia. I may have to do a side-by side for their AZ coverage. The last time I looked at it, they still didn't have CarPlay integration (they do now). They are also more expensive, so there's that.

I purchased both a year or two ago. They were having annual subscription deals on both so I picked them up. Never had a chance to use them.
