Folks with hood scoops are being asked to return to their dealership for removal and reimbursement for the scoop. There is a possibility for the scoop to detatch while driving and fly off. Ford is blaming dealer installation errors and not a faulty product. They did mention that warping of the honeycomb grille could be another culprit. If this is the case, we should theoretically be seeing similar issues with bug deflectors attached with tape or adhesive, which I have not heard of. Either way, the scoop is now listed as "Out of Stock" on the Ford Accessories website.

For those with scoops, do you intend to bring them in for removal or take the risk and keep yours?

Since my scoop was installed by a professional detail & trim shop, I have a little more confidence in the installation than if my local Ford dealer (sorry Ford) had installed it. Been there a couple of years now, so I think I’ll continue to risk it.

I do not think the front hood bug deflector will be an issue, as it attaches low on the hood, all that way around, and is designed to deflect/divert air in an upward motion. They have been around for many years and for many vehicle designs, and I've not heard of any recalls on them in the past, nor have I read about them coming off like the hood scoops of recent.

But, I have been mistaken in the past, so lets see what comes about.

Can folks who like their hood scoops and have gone through the expense of having them painted reject the recall without any hood warrantee consequences? Will they be reimbursed for the paint costs?

I have a factory installed scoop. I like it but have found it does hinder sightlines on hills and some driving situations. Ive been contemplating removing it and this alert has cemented my decision to remove it as I have a 20 min commute at highway speeds.

I stopped into the dealership yesterday and they noted the recall hasn’t been pushed down to them yet but it is rumored to be coming.

i mentioned I may remove it myself and bring in when the recall is confirmed. The service mgr told me he would have his guys remove it and then send to detail in order to remove any residue as its on there pretty good.

Im not expecting reimbursement for the scoop and his offer is more than fair. Will let you know how it goes.

My dealership knew NOTHING about it. Not even a rumor. Weird since the TSB said dealerships would be notified by mid-April and for them to contact customers immediately.
