?My Mach-E didn't come with an engine cover either.
I'd guess about 2 or 3 lbs. It's not heavy...Neither my old mustang or the Merc Mariner have an engine cover and havent had an issue with paint in the Texas summers...but I kinda like the idea of the hood insulation, I know it will be negligible but what does it weigh roughly, any idea?
Opinions on the Internet seem to vary. I couldn't find more reputable sources than forums and youtube to confirm or deny but I will say the parts guy at the dealership also claimed it is designed to smother an engine fire. I still think it's a worthwhile purchase for the other factors."Fire suppression"
No. It's an interwebz myth. Dating back before the interwebz...
The underhood insulator only comes on the 2.0L trims. The 1.5L and 2.0L trims used to each come with its own style rubber(ized) engine cover, but then became scarce, and now apparently no more. One online guy claimed it was for mitigating injuries to pedestrians in a collision. My guesses would have been for handling sound, heat, or both.Fords used to come with both the trim cover and underhood insulation
What he said.According to this guy, the engine cover is there to protect pedestrians.
I thought the skid plate was for that.According to this guy, the engine cover is there to protect pedestrians.
