The Navigation version that comes on the 25 BS is not optional. If I understand correctly some of the original sync 4 vehicles came with connected built in navigation while the newer sync 4 are connected where navigation functionality stops without the subscription. It should indicate on the window sticker which type the car has. But even with the sync 4 built in navigation I believe you will not be able to update the maps like you can in sync 3 without the subscription.

This is from the 2025 Bronco Sport Order Guide:
Navigation services require SYNCĀ®4 and FordPass Connectā„¢ (optional on select vehicles), complimentary connect service and the FordPass app (see FordPassTerms for details). Customer receives a complimentary 1-Year Subscription of navigation services when an eligible vehicle is added to a member’s FordPass account. Trial period begins on the new vehicle warranty start date. At the end of the complimentary period, navigation service will terminate. This means without the navigation subscription the map will still work but you cannot set destinations.
That seems to contradicts what I quoted on my post #52, from the SYNC 4 features page. Leave it to Ford to change their policy, and contradict thir own web pages. Ford is great in creating confusion, similarly to the various forms of Co-Pilot 360, 360 +, Co-Pilot 2.0.

I like your definition better.. reminds me of the Sync 3 Nav where some owners get only 1 update free, some get 3 free and some get 5 years free

There is Connected Navigation, a subscription option, but also built-in Navigation. The SYNC 4 featues page says,
"Reverts to Embedded Navigation with no Connected Navigation services (e.g., live traffic) if a subscription is not purchased after the trial ends "
https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/sync/sync-4/what-are-the-sync-4-navigation-options/
I don't know if that includes the Voice-Activated Touchscreen Navigation System that we have on some SYNC 3 systems, since some Ford docs say "If Equipped."
Thanks for the explanation! I didn’t understand as built in nav is important to me since it’s not hard to get somewhere without cell service here rendering just about anything else useless. I’ll live if the built in maps are outdated.

Ok haha now I’m back to being confused again.

I do wonder if those claiming 3 years free map upgrades have an earlier Connected Navigation. That would make sense. And now that's changed to 1 year free? Or has it? Does Ford even know? I don't know.

LOL, me too! I'm going to play around a bit on the Build and
price to see if I can learn anything more. I've only looked at the Badlands.

In my initial post #61 I was in a hurry so I apologize if I did not explain the differences very well. Sync 4 is a subscription based platform. Unlike Sync 3 where once you are past the complimentary update period you would still be able to buy the latest version of the map from Here. With Sync 4 there are 2 versions. Both are connected but version 1 still has built in navigation and will still work after the complementary period is over but I do not think you can update the map without the subscription The second sync 4 version is connected only and does not have built in navigation. After the complementary period ends you will need the annual subscription to keep the navigation functioning. I believe without the subscription you will still see the map but you will not be able to use any of the functionality of the navigation including destination routing. You should still be able to use your phone navigation apps for destination routing. You do not get a choice of which sync 4 version you want when building your Bronco Sport. With the fine print listed in the 2025 order guide it is clear that Ford is installing the 2nd version of sync 4 in the Bronco Sport. My 23 Escape had the sync 4 version listed on the window sticker under the Functional section. I assume that would be the same for the 2025 BS. From the 25 order guide dated 9/24 it appears the sync with connected navigation is only available on the OuterBanks and Badlands trim. I can't say if that is currently still the case.

Here is the original link provided by RushMan that compares the 2 sync 4 versions: https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/sync/sync-4/what-are-the-sync-4-navigation-options/

Another potential issue with sync 4 connected services is in the fine print listed below. There is a disclaimer that says as technology evolves today's vehicles may have limited functionality that could prevent operation of connected services. I assume this would be a potential issue for those of us that keep our Bronco Sports for a long time.

This is the fine print in the 2025 BS order guide:
At the end of the complimentary period, navigation service will terminate Connected service and features depend on compatible AT&T network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent operation of connected features.

After playing around with the Build and Price for the 2025 models, I've come to the conclusion that there is no more Built-in Navigation on any trim, and the subscription "Connected Navigation" is only available on the OB and BL trims with their Tech Packages, and not available at all on the BB. But I could be wrong.

A good reason to eschew SYNC 4 with navigation.

Thank you! That makes complete sense now.

Another bonus with the new MPC engine is a gear driven oil pump vs. the old belt drive. Not to mention a more attractive engine compartment.

Looks like the new design makes it easier to get at and replace the battery as well.
