And not to mention the electronics in automobiles these days. I worry more about that than engine and drivetrain anymore.I would completely agree with this. Until maybe 2015 or 2018. At the risk of sounding like the high pressure finance guy... sometime around then, bad light bulbs started costing $500-$2000 to fix. For sure the rates are set so the underwriter wins. It used to be 1 in 100 would have some catastrophic issues and be the big warranty winner with head rebuilds, etc. Now it feels like there can be many small jackpot winners simply because repairs are so out of control. I forget the exact terms of the warranty I bought. It was something like +5 years and around $2900 bucks; $0 deductible. That's a lot of peace of mind because car repairs are also a lot harder to self-effect than previous. I could probably replace a headlight, but I couldn't repair, oh say, a failed Turbo. Even a wheel bearing isn't very fun and I bet that would be $500 to avoid the labor.
