I would completely agree with this. Until maybe 2015 or 2018. At the risk of sounding like the high pressure finance guy... sometime around then, bad light bulbs started costing $500-$2000 to fix. For sure the rates are set so the underwriter wins. It used to be 1 in 100 would have some catastrophic issues and be the big warranty winner with head rebuilds, etc. Now it feels like there can be many small jackpot winners simply because repairs are so out of control. I forget the exact terms of the warranty I bought. It was something like +5 years and around $2900 bucks; $0 deductible. That's a lot of peace of mind because car repairs are also a lot harder to self-effect than previous. I could probably replace a headlight, but I couldn't repair, oh say, a failed Turbo. Even a wheel bearing isn't very fun and I bet that would be $500 to avoid the labor.
And not to mention the electronics in automobiles these days. I worry more about that than engine and drivetrain anymore.

Especially when one front headlight assembly is like $750. If I decide to keep my BS , I'll definitely buy a online discounted Ford warranty. The engine and drivetrain aren't perfect either.

I used to avoid the extended warranty like the plague. Now, I consider them part of the purchase price. As has been noted above, the cost of repairs have skyrocketed in the last several years, and it only takes a few previously minor ones to pay for itself.

As far as deductibles, the difference between $0 and $100 deductibles is about $375 for a 10 year/100K mile through Granger. Four warranty claims is all you need for the $0 deductible to cover the added cost.

So for a 10 year 100K zero deductible warranty, around $3255. Even if you had zero claims in 10 years, you’re only out about $27 a month all in. Pretty cheap insurance, really. And yes, they’ve done the actuarials to guarantee their profit. Most people won’t have enough claims to hurt that; if they did, you can bet the ESP price would go up in a New York minute.

All in all though, it’s a personal choice. You have to factor in all your own variables and comfort level.

Could be. I had that same impression about these modern computers-with-wheels builds. The first car we had with a touchscreen center stack was a 2018. I was so nervous about that system because everything routed through it. I'm still waiting for something to go awry with it but it has been trouble free electronics.

Anecdotally, the previous car to that was a PT Cruiser which eventually made it's way to another family member so I have over 2 decades of experience with this car. Now, I know they are the butt of most every internet car joke. But I could tell you a half dozen times weird electrical stuff cropped up. I mean weird. And maybe that's just because it's a PT and that's the reason. Had no issues worth mentioning with Ford or Chevy equipment from the '90s and '00s.

As a recovering former PT Cruiser owner, I defend myself by just saying, "At least it's not an Aztek."

I like the Audi phrase.
The 4 rings of despair.

Waiting on my Lighting to be delivered. Do you prefer the Lighting or the Sport?
Lightning, absolutely no contest...smooth, fast, solid, quiet, comfortable, spacious, 360 cam, 1 pedal mode, frunk, Pro Power, 6 cents kWh home charging...incredible truck. Wife drives the Bronco Sport.

I didn't find that to be the case. I got fantastic discounts on both Lightnings & a very fair price on my trade.
Yes, auto companies are giving them away because of a lack of interest and without Democrats in power, no pushing EVs. The problem is, you'd better keep the Lightning for a long time because the resale value is awful. Go to trade it in right now, you will lose $20K+ if it's new. More if it isn't. Dealers don't want it as a trade unless they can steal it.

$5,600CAD ($4,100USD) out the door, trading up to a '25 XLT from a '24.
Do the math, that's an incredible deal!
Dealer also delivered the truck to my driveway on a Sunday & threw in a tri-fold tonneau, splash guards & all weather floor mats.
They sold my '24 in 4 days...everybody won.?

After reading all the posts, I’d say yes to the trade in. And here’s how I’d do it. If they make an offer on their vehicle and you like it (because the offer on yours is a good one), I’d say $1000 less and yes you’ll do it right now, otherwise you’ll need to go home and think about it. For a $1000, they rarely want you to leave.

I heard that as well. Mine is a lease, so none of that will be my problem. First EV for me. If I hate it, 2 years and it’s gone.

That's the way to buy an EV. Get a cheap lease and no worries about resale value.

I wanted a gas F150, but it was significantly more money per month than the Lighting.

I did take a Lighting for a test drive and did like it. 1 pedal drive was the only thing I didn’t like, but could be because I wasn’t used to it.

If I was buying and keeping it for a long time, it would be different. I would have gotten the gas one. For an extra vehicle it was too good of a deal to pass up. Plus the level 2 charger ford tossed in.

Didn’t mean to hiijack the thread. I hope the op finds what they are looking for. Curious to see what they end up doing

Once you get the timing down it's automatic. I never touch the brake pedal.
