DECEMBER 3, 2020 — Ford EcoBoost problems have caused a class action lawsuit that alleges 1.5-liter, 1.6-liter and 2-liter EcoBoost engines allow coolant to leak into the cylinders.

According to the lawsuit, these Ford and Lincoln vehicles allegedly suffer from cracked cylinder heads, inadequate seals and total EcoBoost engine failures.

2013-2019 Ford Escape
2013-2019 Ford Fusion
2015-2018 Ford Edge
2017-2019 Lincoln MKC
2017-2019 Lincoln MKZ

Got this from one of them sites
Yeah coolant intrusion has been hunting the 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 Ecoboost engines across the board. Ford tried multiple times to re-engineered it and failed….2.0 owners with the ‘new’ fixes (ie post 2019) are starting to pop up left and right…

I was one of the affected ‘new’ gen 2.0 engines owners - 2020 Escape with 55k….sold it after the engine was replaced.

The dragon 1.5 engine is not part of that family…

Do you know if the (affected) ‘new’ gen 2.0 engine that you had in your 2020 Escape is the same 2.0L engine in the ‘21-‘23 Bronco Sport Badlands?

Ford issued a TSB for the previous generation 2.0L engine that requires a long block replacement if coolant intrusion occurs. "Starting to pop up left and right" is a vague term that isn't very informative. The issue experienced with your engine isn't necessarily evidence that the design defect of previous generations still exists. There are many different ways coolant can find its way into a cylinder.

If anyone has a link showing Ford's design change to address coolant intrusion for the latest generation 2.0L is ineffective please share it.

yep, they replaced the long block on mine...just too much of a coincidence. They had another one at the dealer with the same issue. Like I said, the Ecoboost line up has been haunted by coolant intrusion and Ford's engineers either can't fix it or don't want to spend the $$$

yeah the 2020 Escape uses the same 2.0 engine that is in the Bronco Sport - they are platform sisters, in and out...

Car in service some engine problem under warranty? Can't you chat with sales bozos in show room just trade in for a new one? Doesn't every dealer have 3 cyl sitting on lots these days? Tell em they can put it on their used car lot once they figure out how to fix it....

From Wikipedia:

2.0 L "Twin-scroll" (2015–)
A redesigned 2.0 L EcoBoost four-cylinder was introduced with the second-generation Ford Edge, followed by the 2017 Ford Escape in spring 2016. It features a higher compression ratio than its predecessor (10.1:1 vs 9.3:1) along with a twin-scroll turbocharger and fuel and oil systems upgrades, as well as a redesigned block and cylinder head. This new engine will deliver more low-end torque than its predecessor and all-wheel drive will be available in this configuration. It is also expected to tow 3,500 lb (1,600 kg) in the redesigned Edge and 2017 Escape.

this is super interesting, specially because Ford made changes again in 2020 - with the introduction of the new Escape - to attempt to resolve coolant intrusion issues...at least allegedly.

regardless - stay away from the Ecobombs 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0...it's not a matter of IF but WHEN you will get coolant intrusion and have to do major engine work. If you only have vehicles during warranty, it doesn't super matter....

not everyone wants to go deeper into debt because a vehicle has a bad engine...Ford is focused on building more 1.5s because that's where the higher demand is - and lucky for them because otherwise Ford might end up with a Powershift like headache in a few years...

C'mon. Don't you think there would be a lot more hubbub about this if EVERY SINGLE ONE of the EcoBoost engines Ford manufactured had this issue? Obviously, some engines have. The question is how many. Do you have data on the number of engines that experienced this issue compared to the number manufactured?

not all DCT transmissions aka Powershit - experienced the issue as well....keep that in mind.

No, they didn't. But clearly there were enough for Ford to stop using the transmission. I don't see that happening anytime soon with the 2.0L EcoBoost. Indeed, Ford seems to've invested a lot in it, even opening a new production line here in the USA.

Oh Ford kept producing those as well....till eventually there was so much noise, that they had no other option...the issues with Powershift started all the way in 2010...and Ford produced the last one in 2018 - a whole 8 years!!!!!

Granted. Come back when you have the numbers I asked for and then we can discuss with data instead of supposition.
We will never see the numbers - we will see lawsuits and a ‘new’ recall…

The powerbomb already has a terrible reputation out there…
