Bug deflectors.

Does the ford OEM bug deflectors actually have an advantage or is it overpriced plastic

Aluminum will corrode though from salt. I've has a true bug deflector, not a chip protector on all my vehicles that I have had. Works for bugs and low.flying stones.
Aluminum hoods have a corrosion menace all their own, and Ford is very familiar with it, as is anyone that has owned a Gen 5 Mustang. Aluminum hood corrosion was a BIG issue with those cars, at least in the midwest.
(We had 2, both developed corrosion bubbles, mostly along the leading edge.)
Hopefully Ford has addressed this issue on the Bronco hoods, but, I’m sure, like anything else, only time will tell.

It leads me back to my original point. If the salt and antiskid gets under it it's toast. I guess it begs the question, what's worse corrosion from stagnant road debris or corrosion from rock chips.

I vote neither.

I agree. As a retired metallurgist who worked with corrosion scientists, I'd say crevice corrosion. Liquid and solutes trapped between two objects.
When I installed a spoiler on my '17 Escape, I sealed the edges with silicone caulk sealant.
If I were to install one of these tight fitting bug shields on my BSBL, I'd do the same.

So is it possible to have corrosion even with an aluminum hood as prior comments suggests otherwise

Yes, it is possible, especially in locations near salt water. Aluminum corrosion is less obvious than steel corrosion. It develops as a white powder where metal is exposed, or may appear as a bubble in paint.

If salt from the road can get up in there, than water from cleaning can also get in there to. I change vehicles every 4 to 7 years. I don't think it is going to rot through my hood in that time. Plus with less of everything getting to the paint under the deflector it will hold up better to salt that can get in. So you then have time to wash your vehicle and get some of it out.

I do live in the rust belt and my last Ford that was 4 years old at trade-in had very little rust (light surface rust) in a few places on the underside and no rust any place else.

If I go on a long drive during the winter I will wash it when I get back in town

Good point as well , it's conflicting because I'm a perfectionist. I want to put it on to avoid rock chips , don't want it on because of worry of corrosion. I don't think this is my last vehicle. But I'm done with buying cars for a good while

I’m looking at installing an Aeroskin II and am wondering if anyone has one on their BS with either the Topo or Black Diamond hood graphics. I’m concerned that the bug deflector will touch or overlap the hood decal.

had the aero skin II on the old 21 big bend because it got 2 rock chips on the front of the hood.
minutes after getting our 24 badlands home i installed a new one on it. now that i think about it i dont get too many bugs on the windscreen even on long trips. it possibly hurts fuel economy but dont mind that if it saves the paint and glass.

i like how the areo skin II texture matches closer to the bumpers and looks OEM
