Hi all,
I have a 2024 Bronco Sport with 25K miles on it. Have noticed that the display is not all that clear lately even after cleaning the back up lens. Took it to my dealer for other service and i mentioned it to them. They took a look and said the back up lens is scratched and not covered under warrant. I am in VT and drive on dirt roads, and with my prior vehicles never have had such an issue. The are wanting over $600.00 dollars to replace the camera. Any one with such an issue., and suggestions.

Thanks

It took me a long time to even start using it. I guess one of the good things about being as old as the dinosaur. None of the auto Nannie’s even existed for most of our driving years.

Personally, I prefer the rearview mirror. That does require the rear window to be clean.

You could look into some polishing paste to see if that would clean it up.

If the backup camera lens is scratched that is damage & is NOT covered under warranty. Why call a lawyer for something that is not covered?

Same issue with my 23 Maverick. Blurred image and lens clean. Ford dealer replaced under warranty. If they won't honor it then I think its pretty easy to replace yourself.

Do you use a car wash by chance?

Don’t know what mater the lens is made out of, but you might try one of the headlight restoration products (don’t use the power polisher šŸ˜) or some jeweler’s rouge to polish out the scratches. Might not work, but what have you got to lose?

I would use a clear film from 3m or Lamin-X. I use Lamin-x on my headlights, it prevents stone damage. 3m is on the entire front of my MINI, no rock chips.

I had something similar happen with my former Lexus. A small rock just happened to my camera while driving one day and cracked it. I tried very hard to get it covered under warranty, but had no luck. Unless you can prove the camera lens itself failed it's not going to be covered and that's not going to happen. I ended up having to shell out $1100 for mine. I could have bought the camera itself, but it was the same price as the dealer and it had to be calibrated which I could not do. $600 isnt a bad price imo, but if it has to be calibrated that's probably going to be more. See what online places like Levitown Ford is charging for the camera and compare to what the dealer wants installed and calibrated. Might save some money buying it then having them install it.
