If this has been discussed - please link me.

I just bought my 2024 Free Wheeling a month ago...

I live in Arizona and it's getting into our 100+ degree weather.

Today I noticed that my monitor screen took a bit to display after starting. It remained black screen for about 20 seconds.

The back of the monitor (dash side) was really hot.

  • I have a custom dash mat that is for high temperature - but it doesn't cover the exposed part that was hot to touch.
  • I use a shade screen in the window.
Is there something aftermarket I should buy that I can drape over the monitor when it's parked - or should I make shift a cooling mat?

This is my first new car (I drive a 2008 Mustang) with the computer in the dash.

Thanks in advance :)

You may have a hardware issue - the screen should not exhibit that behavior
Ford has designed the components to meet the interior vehicle temps encountered in Arizona

Probably will need to take it to the dealership and see what they diagnose

Make sure you got the latest software update, I got the APIM module replacement under warranty 'cause the frozen screen.
I'm not sure if this aftermarket part could help (picture add)

Another Zonie here, been in the Valley of the Sun (more like Surface of the Sun) for almost 30 years.

Issues with the head unit notwithstanding, the best shade I’ve found (had it on four cars now) is the Eclipse (https://eclipsesunshades.net/).

Always there, folds out of the way, and lasts the life of the car. If you have to replace the windshield—and if you live in Phoenix, you will—replacement clips are ten bucks.

Only thing that would work better would have to be on the outside of the windshield.

Could have been an update, or just a glitch. Mine does that from time to time. My screen also runs hot all the time just from being on. Is it still doing it on startup?

Phoenix interior temps are well known to automotive engineers

I used to design for those temps and hotter

Should not be an issue which is why is probably a hardware defect

Try a windshield tint if it's legal in AZ.
Short answer, no, but...

ARS 28-959.01, Section A, Para 11 states that prohibition does not apply to transparent material that is installed, affixed or applied to the topmost portion of the windshield if:

(a) The bottom edge of the material is at least twenty-nine inches above the undepressed driver's seat when measured from a point five inches in front of the bottom of the backrest with the driver's seat in its rearmost and lowermost position with the vehicle on a level surface.
(b) The material is not red or amber in color.

Basically, the line of the existing factory windshield tint (the AS-1 line) is the boundary of where you can add tint. Also, the front driver & passenger windows must allow at least 33% light transmission, and the rear driver & passenger sides are unlimited. Most new cars sold in AZ are already tinted by the dealer to the legal maximum.

There are windshield films that are technically not tint, but UV blockers. I have that on my car and it's made a big difference.

Check to see if there is a clear film that will reject the majority of heat & UV rays.

They now make a clear windshield "tint" that blocks infrared rays. I sat in my car for a demonstration where the guy held it over the window and put an infrared heater a few inches away. The difference was amazing.

I suffer from skin cancer, so I'm always looking for better solutions to window tinting. I lived in Tucson for 9 years, so I know what you're facing.

It didn't feel hot today. But it's early :)

It did "glitch" again. So I will take it in and have them look at it...if there is anything to diagnose. At least it will be on record.

I am wondering if the hiccup is the car trying to find my iPhone versus plugging it in for access to car play.
