Hi all. Decided to add a Rough Country 20” bumper mounted LED light bar to my Outerbanks.

I also picked up an auxbeam AS-R40 switch.

With regards to mounting the control box under the hood.

1. Is it safe to mount with heat proof double sided tape?

2. is on top of the air box (just in front of the battery) and ok spot? Or how about the flat box just to the right of the battery? I haven’t looked close at that spot. Is it the fuse box?

On a side note. I was thinking of installing a small camera in the front. I’ve been looking at a RunCam6. Anyone try this? This camera is low profile, can be powered without a battery, and has an hdmi out. I could wire to an auxbeam switch, and mount a small 5 or 6 inch monitor in my cab. Turn it on when I need it. My one concern is weather proofing the camera. Looks like it has vents on the sides. So don’t think I can just Plasti dip it.

The auxbeam does come with a mounting plate. Seen top left in this screen shot.

Look it’s not beautiful but I bought a 12”x12” sheet of metal from Home Depot and cut it to the size I wanted, than bolted it to 2 L brackets that I mounted to the oem screws on the fender.
The issue with mounting on your air box or anywhere but completely out of the way is, anytime you get your vehicle serviced, it makes that guys job harder than it has to be. (I realize my work is not necessarily something to be proud of but here’s one idea)

I think it looks great.
When the weather gets better I’ll be cleaning it up a bit. I hate that I have the fuse to the relay mounted where it Is. I’ve since put cloth tape on the metal where it may rub the frame but it’s worked all winter haha

I agree with Colt. Mounting to the airbox cover will make servicing the air filter and swapping batteries a pain. Sure, you don't have to do those tasks very often, but there are other options that don't involve making your life more difficult down the road.

Can you tell me about the 12” x 12” sheet metal you bought? Is this commonly sold at any Home Depot? How difficult was it to cut to size? I like this option and think I can make it work.

thanks again

Yeah! Here’s a link!

There might be better options out there but it’s worked for me. I’ll send you my measurements as well later today. I basically cut it with sheet metal shears than took a rotary tool to grind down the edges so it wouldnt cut anyone or any thing. Since the photo I sent I’ve spray painted it with multiple coats of rustoleum.

Another vote for the drivers side fender. That’s where I mounted our sPOD. Found a jeep specific mount and bent it to work on the sport.

Welp your post sent me down a rabbit hole and I am now waiting for delivery of an auxbeam. I can’t believe I hadn’t done it sooner. I never realized the relays were built in. Thank you for the push haha

I’ve been looking at them for a while. Then I saw the AS-R40, 4 switch one. That’s all I need. I think I’m just going to use the double sided tape to mount it. Put in on the center consul. In that space just in front of the transmission knob and cup holder.

I’d like to add some light cubes, that illuminate the sides of the BS and possibly 2 rear facing. With my bumper light that will utilize 3 switches. Then I’m thinking of picking up a discontinued Thinkware X1000 dashcam. And running the back view camera to my front bumper. To use as a front trail cam. I hate not being able to see over the hood when there’s a down grade in front of me.

Ok, received my Auxbeam today. Comes with a nice little mounting plate. I’m thinking I can get a piece of metal, cut a 2 inch wide strip and as long as it needs to be to use the 2 fender bolts. I’ve drawn red (very crudely) how I’d mount with the strip. Would fit nice in that empty fender spot.

Great idea. I just got mine installed today and used my existing diy metal plate but will eventually switch to the one they sent. I’m seriously impressed with the quality of this auxbeam panel. To anyone considering switching from the typical relay and switch wiring of multiple lights, get one. It’s so worth it
