How do I turn off the double honk alert? I turn off the headlights, I turn off the car, I open the door and the f#cking car honks at me. WTAF?

Are you taking about with the car running? As built I do not think that can be turned off. The car is reminding you that the driver left the car and it is still running. There were other situations where I got the double beep on 4th generation escapes but they do not apply to the Bronco Sport.

The double honk is supposed to be a warning that you are opening the door with the engine still running. It's possible that the computer believes the car is still running due to a timing error. Here's an experiment: the next time you shut the car off sit for 10-15 seconds before opening the door.

The car is supposed to honk at you if:
  • you open the driver's door with the engine running (may have to be in drive).
  • you lock the door using the lock button on the door, then fail to fully close the door.
  • you lock the door using the lock button on the door and close the door with the fob inside.
It's possible the code controlling your locking system has gotten out of whack at some point. A number of users have posted issues with the locking systems in their vehicles. A known issue is intelligent access for the liftgate; sometimes it will not open unless you unlock the car first. That one is so prevalent Ford published a procedure to restore intelligent access for the liftgate.

As a last resort, you might consider disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes or so. That should completely power down the powertrain control module and other computer systems. When they power back up they should be back to factory settings.

DISREGARD BE!OW … SEE MY UPDATED FIX LATER IN THREAD

I had the irritating double honk as well when exiting the vehicle after shutting down the engine. it drove me crazy trying to figure out why it was honking. sometimes it would honk, other times not.

It’s the rear occupant alert and honks if it detects one of the rear passenger doors were opened during the current travel cycle … regardless if a person was there or not. I finally found how to disable it in the Vehicle touchscreen menu. Settings —> Vehicle —> Rear Occupant alert Off

it drove me insane for months ….

It’s the rear occupant alert
Hmmm. I've never heard this before. The system alerts you with a chime and notification on the instrument panel, but I've never gotten a double-honk. I'll have to do some testing...

I'm guessing the rear occupant alert is supposed to be a "baby in the back" thing. So that idiot parents that place their baby in a baby seat in the back forget the child is there, leave and lock the car get alerted.

Then someone in the parking lot calls the police to break a window to save the child from heat exhaustion. Florida passed a law that allows for anyone to break a window to save a child locked in the back seat when a parent (known as an idiot) forgets about them.

Guys I apologize! Arrgg. It’s the MISLOCK CHIRP that I disabled. That’s the cause of double honk, it’s when auto-unlock is enabled, and when you open your door after auto lock. This is the cause !!

Lots of people reported the same issue
Probably this will help them, thanks for posting the solution

the description doesn’t sound exactly like the problem you described, perhaps I misunderstood your posts

The car will also do the double honk when you open the car door if the security system has been triggered.
