I assume that everything that was replaced will be under factory warranty, and items that were not replaced should still be under warranty, thats the card you still hold.

I think Ford Ford should give you a replacement vehicle, that would be better for you, your daughter and for Ford to do the right thing as your vehicle was practically new.

Depends on the circumstances. A warranty replacement after a couple thousand miles indicates a manufacturing defect rather than abuse. And if the car is driven for several thousand miles after with no further engine-related claims you can be fairly confident the work was done properly. But yeah, engine replacement after 25K along with a bunch of other warranty work? That's the hallmark of a pony that's been rode hard and put away wet...
This car is 4 months old and has only 4,550 miles on it. I guess it should only take another 4 months to find out if the replacement has the same problems.

By the way, the one time I did actually get my Ford "Advocate" on the phone she told me it isn't up to Ford to decide on replacing the vehicle. She said it is up to the dealership. I'm finding that very hard to believe.

For peace of mind, my daughter would be in a Honda or Toyota after an experience with that Bronco Sport but that's me.
That’s not a solution. Look at the open recalls on those two brands. Not what they used to be. My 21 Honda Passport had 5 open recalls that I knew of when I dumped it. Wiring had to be replaced which required the dash and some of the interior to be removed. Mirrors literally falling. Seatbelts not correctly installed. Rear camera failures. I know Toyota is having major issues too.

If I had this owner’s experience I be looking to another brand too. Just don’t assume what used to be true about quality still is.

I guess my wife and I are lucky because we have had many Hondas without issues.

Any consolation, I have over 50,000 miles with minimal aggravation.

Yeah but for what ever reason ppl think Honda and Toyota are infallible which is far from the truth. Obviously doing zero research if they think those two brands never have any issues.

Every make has issues to some degree.

My friend's Totota Tacoma was badly damaged in a MVA. The part needed to START the repair process won't be in until early MARCH?????? He is not happy.

When you pick up the rig, get it emission tested. That should tell you if the catylitic converter is working. Here in NM, it only costs $25 for a test.

The driving factor in this situation is how good is the Op's dealer service department. Some dealers can't be trusted doing an oil change while others can do factory level work.
So far the communication doesnt seem transparent which isn't a good sign, obviously we on the board don't know the whole story.

The vehicle will have to pass emissions, it's required by law. There are several warranties in effect, Ford, Federal and in some cases State.

A few things, I understand you frustration, It failed and they fixed it, it would be nice to know what caused the original failure however there is little advantage to them to figure out once they decided to replace the engine as whatever the cause was going away. the turbo failure was probably related likely, a lubrication/cooling failure of some sort. It would have been nice that they figured the turbo out initially but once it became obvious they did fix it as well no questions asked.

They have meet there obligations under the warranty and it sounds like the lemon law provisions haven't been exceeded hence Ford saying it was up to the dealer. If he wanted to do some good will swap.

Did you get a loaner while it was in the shop? If not I'd be pissed about that.

You got a brand new engine and Turbo and while it is a lot it is not really that technical of a repair, I'd be much more concerned had they rebuilt the engine lots of stuff to mess up with that. Give it time It's most likely fine.

I get that you always worry about your kids but lots of college kids are running around in 10 to 15 year old cars. Make sure she has good road service we got all our kids AAA Plus which which gave them up to 200 miles of towing to where ever they wanted no real questions asked.

All in all I'd be glad they did a full blown replacement and and not some patchwork repair.

I purchased the Heritage vehicle at the end of July 2023 for my daughter. It was her reward for all the hard work of getting into a great college. After only 4 months the engine started making a ticking sound. I told my daughter to not drive it and I brought her my car. When I got to her school I immediately called the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and they gave me an appointment a month away and told me they can't get me in any earlier unless the check engine light comes on and is blinking. The very next day the car surged on the highway and the check engine light came on and I could smell oil. It lost most of its power and would rev to 6,000 and drop to 4,000 before jumping back up. I called the dealership and they again said if the light isn't blinking then I could just drive it to them and they could try to listen to it. I creeped my way home as the dealership was too far and I knew I couldn't make it. By the time I got home I lost the navigation screen display and it couldn't make it up my driveway. I called the dealership again and told them they needed to come get it. They sent a tow truck and 2 days later said the engine needed to be replaced. 3 weeks later they had it replaced and said it will be ready on Monday. Monday comes and no word from them so I sent a text to the technician and was told they started it and it blew out black smoke that covered their parking lot and they determined that oil got into the turbos and those needed to be replaced. Ford Customer Care and the person who called herself my advocate have been non-responsive. I have tried getting the dealership manager to call me with no luck. I have owned 4 F150's and never had an issue. This vehicle is a lemon and when it is finally repaired, they think I should take it back. I hate to think what would have happened if it failed on my daughter on the highway. Luckily we moved to be within an hour and I was able to get the car. I don't trust that replacing the engine and turbos will be the final fix. Does anyone have any advice on how to get a manager at Ford Customer Care to speak with me and if I can really trust this vehicle going forward? Also, how does having a new engine change warranty? Should they provide me a new warranty start date at least on the engine due to a new engine being installed?
Hi there, Neal. This engine concern and experience doesn’t sound like something we want you or your daughter to experience with her Bronco Sport. Can you please send me a PM with the Bronco's VIN and dealer name/location so I can look into these concerns for you? To send a private message, just click on our username and select "Start Conversation". I'd be happy to see what I can do to further assist!
