Going to say it's a combination of elevation, stop traffic, and your foot. Most of it your foot. Easy to get better mileage with softer starts and longer smooth runs. 22 isn't crazy it's just the low end of averages.
Drive like there's an egg between your foot and the pedals.

All has to be traffic. Driving like grandma and in Eco mode. Just really disappointing. This is 2022, no excuse for vehicles not having better mileage. This car feels like you’re pulling an anchor even when coasting downhill.
well, it's not the most robust off the line as a heavy brick. I average closer to 25/30+ expressway
Personally...I'd consider hanging in there and waiting for a hybrid option or maybe trade it for an escape or something similar if fuel efficiency is a major concern. 22 is lower, but based on the traffic conditions, having no idea how hard you drive it, that is in line with the efficiency I'd say.

Not an anchor, more like a sail going against the wind.

First tank had about 315 miles, filled up with just over 12 gallons ($63!!!), and the dash was reading 25.4 mpg under mixed driving. I think I'll be fine if the miles to empty is anywhere near accurate (my nissan was not) and I get nearly 400 miles per tank.

Latest update over three more tanks.

CONDITIONS:
  • Regular (87 octane) from Sam's Club
  • 60/40 highway/city split
  • Typical summer temps with lows in the 70s
  • GOAT mode NORMAL

GALLONSMILESINDICATEDMEASURED
11.1278.527.225.1
13.8370.227.826.8
15.3401.127.826.2
40.21049.827.626.1

NOTES:
  • Just under 6,000 miles on the ODO
  • 1 MPG improvement over last update which I attribute to warmer summer temps
  • Slightly more optimistic indicated vs measured (+1.5 now vs +1.1 previous)
  • The computer-indicated miles remaining to empty appears to be quite accurate. I got +400 miles on the last tankful with a constant reminder at the end from Bitchin Betty I needed fuel. I put 15.3 gallons in the tank, which means I had approximately .7 gallons remaining. Bitchin Betty said I would be empty in 15 miles. If we assume I would have gotten the measured average mileage (26.1 MPG) for the remaining fuel (.7 gallons) then the math works out to: 26.1 X .7 = 18. That's a lot more accurate than I thought it would be. Don't push that number folks!

Filled up today (3rd tank), around 900 miles total. The computer said 24.8, calculated 24.73, so the computer is accurate so far. This tank was up and down the mountain at Hurricane Ridge, 110 highway miles on that trip, and a week to/from work, so very mixed driving. So far so good with the BSBL.

Keep in mind measurement from a single tank isn’t very accurate. Take a look at the single tank measurements from my posts throughout this thread and you’ll see they’re all over the place, but all of the three tank averages are quite close. All of the driving I’ve done with this car has been in the same conditions save for the weather. The owner’s manual recommends measuring over three tanks.

Thanks for the detailed reports. My driving pattern is roughly similar (60/40 highway/city), which means my fuel expenses should increase by ~9% based on your data and mine from when I drove a 21 Big Bend. (28.6 combined MPG over 10,000 miles.)

This was just my first data point. I was comparing the calculated with the trip estimate. The lifetime is a little different.

I’m only approaching 1000km but I’m averaging 8.9L/100km. I drove about 80-90 highway and rural roads.

That’s roughly 26mpg.

You better get that thing looked at. Mine will run away going down hill and rolls forever on level ground.
I think my 26 mpg average is great considering I’m in the Appalachian mountains. I’m always pulling up some hill or going around a switch back.
No boat anchor here.
Did you make a poor choice for economy in tires ?

Taking the little Bucker up to Yellowstone, stopped north of Denver for the night. From DFW to Amarillo got right about 23.1 doing mostly 78-80. From Amarillo to Denver I got 29.1 doing about the same speeds. Did switch to 88 vs 87 octane as regular up here is only 85 but I don't think that would account for the difference. I noticed a similar difference in mpg last time I was up in elevation over memorial day as well. Just something I figured I'd point out here to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

I have K02s in 245 65 17 and I have to do a lot of short trips. I live only 3 miles away from work and I have to do a lot of short commutes to and from hospitals in the area, so I'm only getting 21.x mpg. I use Eco mode a lot. I like it. The start/stop is pretty tame compared to my gf's BMW which shakes the car when it starts and stops and doesn't let you accelerate. Eco mode in the Ford is way more flexible and just makes the vehicle feel like a 4Runner. It's better for dogs too because it smooths out the drive.

I'm currently using 87 octane after two tanks full of 93. I can definitely tell a difference in acceleration, but I can live without 93 until prices return to some version of acceptable.
