I added a lift and larger tires to my Jeep Liberty diesel, and it was an off-road beast, limited only a little by clearance. I would have bought another if they hadn't quit making them.
That said, My BL is just as good, (and maybe better) but needed skid plates on the eval and catalytic...
I've been very impressed by the off road chops of my Badlands.
My friend has a Tacoma with a hood scoop and hates it. When you're off road, you can't see the rocks ahead of you.
Fords are bad enough with the hood being so high. It isn't like the engine is a V8.
I had a '95 F-250 that was almost trouble free for 17 years. Bought a used '07 Superduty that holds 6 people, so I could pull a trailer and haul grandkids. along. But, the big diesel isn't a great daily driver.
Any noise that makes your ears hurt has caused permanent damage to you hearing. Take it from someone who now wears hearing aids.
I think a class action lawsuit would be appropriate.
I have a roof box and a trailer. Both reduce gas mileage dramatically. I bought an ATV cargo rack from Harbor Freight, because it sits about 6" higher than a standard rack. It is only rated for 300 lbs., which translates to 150 off road, but that is plenty. It doesn't hurt my gas mileage...
Years ago, I had a Karman Ghia, and put a roof rack on it to carry a small Jon Boat. It made a depressing difference in gas mileage, even without the boat. With the Jon Boat on, I couldn't pass a semi without a running start. The wind was coming around the front of the truck, and it was like...
I had a Jeep Liberty diesel that I loved, but it was getting old, so I was looking for something off-road capable that gets good mileage. The Badlands fits the bill just right. It is more capable than my Liberty was (once I lifted it and added skid plates).
I'd like a cable powered emergency brake. I think an electric brake on a vehicle with battery issues is a safety concern.
I really like a smaller key fob. I'd buy an aftermarket one if it were available.
Bigger wheel wells to allow for larger tires would help a lot with clearance.
I've been very impressed with my Badlands in snow, mud, and sand. I have the Falken AT3W 235/65R17s. IMHO, the only thing the big Bronco has over the BS is clearance, a body on frame, and probably more skid plates.
After plowing snow with my catalytic converter, I did put a skid plate...
I have the Falkens on my Sport, and love them. When I replace them, I'm going with 235/70R17s. That is a 30 inch tire, and i've seen one person on this forum who put them on with no issue. The more rubber between you and the potholes, the smoother the ride.
I had KO2s on my Jeep Liberty...
Those 5 gallon buckets with a roller covered with peanut butter work very well. A couple of inches of water in the bottom make it impossible for them to get out.
I had a huge mouse problem in my garage. I was able to fix it with new door seals (the old ones had shrunk), and I adopted a...
I highlly recommend the Bronco Off-Rodeo. I was able to go to Moab, which is spectacular country.
I ripped the magic carpet on the driver's side the first time I took it off-road. I added skid plates on that side and over the catalytic converter. I'll be replacing my 235/65R17 tires with...
I can take my Badlands with lift and skid plates to places I wouldn't or couldn't take my F-250 Superduty. It is definitely the most capable off-road vehicle I've ever owned. I carry a Hi-lift jack with Lift-Mate, Army shovel, mattock, and axe in case I run into something it can't handle. So...
I can tell you that a 235/70R17 (30" tall) doesn't quite fit in the spare well, even with the insulation taken out. It sits a couple of inches higher than normal. The bed cover still fits, but you lose a couple inches in cargo height. I may use a hitch rack to carry the spare.
I may keep...
