  1. Blackstone Oil Analysis

I've been told that sludge and gum are the result of short runs without the engine coming up to operating temperature. I've been running full synthetic oil for 35 years. I change the oil once a year whether it needs it or not. But, with a vehicle under warranty, I follow the recommended...
  2. Built out for biking, hiking and camping adventures.

In hot weather camping, a shower is definitely a luxury. I carry a 20 Amp Hour lithium battery for lights, and bought a small diaphragm pump and shower hose. I just drop the suction tube of my pump into a water jug and turn on the pump. I have a black plastic military style water jug...
  3. Review video: Driving sports TV badlands off-road review

Others on the forum have said that they fit without rubbing, even without a lift. Lots of people say they have 245/65 R17's on without issue, and mine are 1/2" taller and 0.3" narrower than those. Some extra rubber between me and the road will help smooth out the potholes on NM roads. I...
  4. Review video: Driving sports TV badlands off-road review

My new tires will be 235/70 R17, which I believe is 30".
  5. Review video: Driving sports TV badlands off-road review

My son was spotting for me once and guided my pumpkin right on top of a stump. Oops. With a 1-1/2" lift, and a couple of skid plates, I've gone on much worse than what the video shows.
  6. What did you do TO your Bronco Sport today?

Someone invented a handheld gun that could be pointed at at vehicles exhaust and would read the emission levels. It became available after the decision to have emission testing stations everywhere. So, we have vehicles spewing oil out the exhaust, and it doesn't get noticed until emissions...
  7. HRG 2.5” Ultimate Lift Kit on Badlands

I purchased the kit and took it to a reputable 4WD shop. They said they weren't comfortable installing it. I don't remember the reason now. I sent the kit back and got the 1.5" lift. HRG charged me a 20% restocking fee, because the packages had been opened. I've been happy with the 1.5"...
  8. Cross-Country Trip MPG With Badlands 2.0L Engine

Wow! I reset my long odometer by mistake about 2 years ago, and my average since then has been 27.3 mpg. I take a weekly 100 mile round trip, going 30 mph for about 50 miles, 70 mph for 40 miles, and 50 mph for 10 miles. IOn the trip trip up I carry 450 lbs. of water in a tank, and empty on...
  9. MPG issue, or not?

I have the 2.0, and it has averaged 27 mpg over two years. Have you confirmed the gas mileage by doing the math? It is possible, although unlikely, that the calibration is just off.
  10. Spare tire / jack

The foam and insulation just pull out. I turned the spare upside down to utilize the space for storage. I have to pull the spare to check the tire pressure, but I carry a compressor when I'm out in the woods, so I'm not worried about a low pressure spare. I got a shorter bolt with a big...
  11. Spare tire / jack

40 years ago, in a weak moment, I was going to buy a new Chevy truck. They didn't come with a spare, and that killed the deal for me. Once you rip a sidewall in the middle of nowhere, you'll never go without a spare. After that, I wanted to have two spares. I broke a trailer axle up in...
  12. Best Recovery Boards and placement for trips

Have you actually had to use recovery boards? Once on the beach in Mexico with an old Chevy 2WD pulling a catamaran on a trailer, I needed them. What I had then was 6' 2x6's. My Badlands has gone through some pretty deep sand without a hitch. I do carry a Hi-Lift Jack just in case. I...
  13. 4-pin to 7-pin trailer harness conversion

For running an electric refrigerator, you'll want a DC-DC Charger. Renogy makes one for $159. You will need a heavier wire from the battery back to your bumper. Log in to Forest River forums and do a search, and you'll learn more than you wanted to know about how to keep electric fridges...
  14. What did you do TO your Bronco Sport today?

Have you taken it off road yet? I've read that the 235/70R17's don't rub, but I'd like confirmation. I put oversized KO2 tires on my Jeep Liberty and rubbted ed at full steering, but it was never a problem. It made a big difference off road both in traction and clearance.
  15. 4-pin to 7-pin trailer harness conversion

Many tow vehicles are set up to charge the trailer while driving. They don't charge much, and many people run separate wire for charging. IMHO, a better system is to put a solar panel with a charge controller on top of your trailer. It charges your battery while the trailer isn't being used...
  16. How are y'all getting dirt/grime out of the hinges?

I use LA Awesome from the Dollar Store, and then spray it down with water. If you're worried about too much water, use a hand sprayer (like the one the LA Awesome comes in) and just put clean water in it.
  17. Has anyone else dealt with 12v battery issue?

I wouldn't worry about them putting one of the old batteries in. I think you'll be good for a couple of years. I had my old style battery for 3 years without a problem. In the winter, with lots of short drives and headlights on much more, I found I need to charge my battery occasionally...
  18. Tire recommendations

I've been very happy with the Falken Wildpeaks that came on my Badlands. Great on the highway, and very impressive in mud snow and sand. My replacement tire is a Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse in 235/70R17. It will give me a little more rubber between me and the potholes. I had KO2s on my...
  19. Bring back the body-colour roof!

I like the look of the black roof, but out here in the high desert, a lighter colored roof makes a lot more sense.
  20. Is this for real?

I'd sure like the extra clearance they talked about. That is the biggest limitation of the Sport.
