The whiz kid designers at Ford wanted to add a whole bunch of "cool" but unnecessary electronic gadgets, but didn't understand that they needed to upgrade the battery and charging system to support that.
I was poor and driving a .47 Chevy, but my girlfriend had a Fiat 124 Sport Spider. That car was a blast to drive down the backside of the Sandia Mountains. I passed a 6 pack Roadrunner like he was standing still. The look on his face was priceless. Okay, I didn't really see his face, I was...
I have a 235/70R17. After taking out all the foam and padding in my '21 Badlands, I was able to squeeze it down in the hole. It is a tight fit, and sticks up a little above where the original 225/65R17 did, but I can live with it.
It is easy to run down the battery on the BS. Letting your battery discharge below 50% shortens their life. If you don't drive it a lot, you should probably have a solar panel on the dash, or a trickle charger.
So far, no problems with my battery. That said, I carry a battery jumper when I...
My local dealer wanted my credit card for a $200 service to check a warranty item (Back door seal falling off). It was irritating, because it was obvious that it was a warranty item. There was no charge, but to charge $200 to "look" at it is ridiculous. There are good reasons I didn't buy my...
Revelco claims they've never had a car with their anti-theft system stolen. It is about $500, but the key is clunky, and doesn't ride well in your pocket. They give you 2 keys and if you lose them, you're in trouble.
My first car was a '47 Chevy. I don't miss it. It had to be tuned up every few months, the brakes had to be bled every few weeks, the shock absorbers used a lever system that came apart on me on the freeway. The engine needed rebuilding at about 50,000 miles. I was pushing it down the street...
I sometimes think that the guys that load the sand and gravel get a kick out of dumping an entire bucket into your truck or trailer. They once filled my little trailer so full that the axle bent and the tires were rubbing on the sides of the trailer. They don't need to fill the entire bucket...
I once read that an Englishman brought carp to America because they were so good tasting. I'd love to have that recipe. I've tried eating a couple, and didn't care for it.
I ripped the carpet "skid plate" off my BL the first time I went off road. Underneath that are fuel lines (I believe for the evaporator). I put on a skid plate.
With limited clearance and rutted roads, I was often scraping on the center of the road. I decided that a skid for the catalytic...
I haven't checked, but is it the brake light or the running light that comes on when you start the car?
Does it light up when you turn on the emergency flashers?
My Badlands has a 1-1/2" lift and skid plates on the catalytic converter and driver's side. It has taken m eevery place I've wanted to go, including some pretty difficult trails. It rides like a car on the highway, and handles off road amazingly well. I've driven it in sand, mud, and snow...
I did once badly overload my son's 1/2 ton GMC with a load of sand and although I drove carefully, a few weeks later his axle fell out in the middle of an intersection.
My '22 Badlands with tow package is rated for 955 lbs.
150 lbs overweight isn't something I'd worry about. Of course, I drive like an old man. Take the curves slowly, and don't drive fast on bad roads.
The jack handle on the BS is pretty short. If you're old (like me) or a woman, you might want to add a cheater bar (a 18" piece of 3/4" pipe) into one of those holes in the foam around the tire. It gives you more leverage to loosen the lug nuts that some kid at the tire store put on with an...
