Hate the dial shifter

I personally can’t stand the dial shifter. Have it in the sport and our Maverick. I sometimes get it wrong in 3 point turns. Well my wife finally got it wrong. Nice front end damage.

There really should be detents for drive and reverse. I've gotten use to a full right spin for drive, but I end up in park a lot of the time and wonder why I'm not moving. Some genius had a great idea.

I personally like it and did not think I would. I made the same mistakes until I got used to it. However, I get it. I won’t tell you you’re stupid because you don’t like it. Unlike how people here were telling me I was stupid for not liking the auto stop start feature. People are different. I hope it grows on you as I don’t think there is a way to change it like there is for the auto start stop feature.

Pretty well sums up my feelings on the dial shifter after 7 months of ownership. Different strokes for different folks as Muhammad Ali said. Like the OP, I was initially put off by it as I'm a creature of habit, now I don't even think about it and have suffered no mishaps. That has surprised me.

In some ways, current auto stick shifters are a vestigial part of the mechanical transmission/clutch systems I learned on in the early 70s. Automatic shifters nowadays just make electrical connections while providing a faux mechanical feeling -- and occasionally getting in the way.

Seeing how I’ve had cars and trucks from the days of “3 on the tree” to a “7 speed stick on the floor”, the only issue I have with the dial is “where do I rest my hand” when cruising. As for putting it in park, I like the quick spin properties. One quick twist, and I’m done.

Yep. However, I recall that my dad told me not to rest my hand on the floor gear knob as it would "stress the linkages" on the 4-speed manual in my 66 Chevy 10 half-ton. Not sure if there was any truth to that.

I've gotten used to it and actually like it. It's nice not having a gear shift lever sticking up and taking up space on the center console.

Totally agree with everyone here. I do miss my manual transmissions and sometimes when mine starts to 'grovel' a little, I feel the need to downshift. LOL! I do wish the knob had more deliberational movement (clicks). I have accidentally put mine in reverse/drive when fumbling around in that area. I've bumped several things on that console as have passengers riding shotgun. I'm wishing it was a little more accident resistant.

When I had my f150 with stick it was a nice change from driving the Bronco. F150 gone so dial it is. At 75 I still like a stick, call me old fashioned if you will. By the way first posting on forum.

I kinda like it ... odd that you need to start the car to put in N though on the odd chance you need it.
