Roof Cross Bars

I have a three week old Bronco Sport Badlands and want some cross bars. I called the dealer yesterday and told them the make and model and he said since I had the Badlands I would need the off road bars, something about them fitting the existing roof rails. Now honestly I doubt I’ll ever do serious off-roading. I do foresee some snow driving and pasture driving since I have a farm. Do I really need the off road bars? Don’t they have a lower weight limit?

That's just what Ford calls the OEM Badlands version because the side rails are slightly different or were in past models. You are better off buying some from somewhere other than Ford. Many have had success with some from Amazon, others including myself from the big name brands. If you search for "crossbars" in the search function you'll find tons of info. Here is a recent thread on that subject.

All of them will hold more load than what the BS is designed to carry up top.

I’ve been really happy with the Yakima HD bars. I had them on my Subaru Crosstrek and was able to just move them over to the Bronco Sport. They aren’t aerodynamic bars but are very robust and can support a lot of weight,( 500lbs if I’m not mistaken, which is more than the Bronco rails are rated for ). Most important for me is they’re flat, the OEM ones are curved which is not as useful to me. They aren’t the cheapest but they hold up great and are easy to get on and off if you ever need to. I’ve had multiple sheets of plywood tied to them and these are often used to support roof top tents. I never worry about what I put on them and Yakima makes just about every accessory you can think of compatible with them.

I put the off road ones on my badlands and the wind noise increased so much that I took them off. Might be ok if you're not an interstate driver

FYI, the OEM off-road bars are made by Yakima for Ford.

Got my NEW OEM Ford Off-Road bars from EBay $119.00 shipped!

The following part numbers are the exact same off-rood rack. Ford has just changed the part numbers over the years. This is how I found mine at a low price.

I bought some that matched the OEM bars off Amazon. I also bought longer screws to make it easier to take on an off as I don’t leave them on when I don’t need to use them. They don’t seemed to be available anymore but work well.

Captain Skippy, the link to this thread was a thread I started. There is an Amazon link in the thread for the ones I bought. They are very nice. Good fit and a great price. They are the on road style and sit lower. As mentioned weight limit is not an issue with either style. The wind noise will be higher on the off road style. Hope this helps.
