I work at a large Ford dealership & my office is next to our delivery bay. I hear a lot of different vehicles & I have to say I can't stand the exhaust resonance of the F150 Raptors. I feel the same way about the 2.3L turbo Mustangs, Broncos & Rangers. I still have to get up & check out any 5.0L F150s or Mustangs I hear. I've been doing this over 40 years & the sweetest "stock" exhaust was the GT350s with the 5.2L V8.
GT350, Flat-plane crank?

I always thought the 5.0L in the Mustang always had a great "song" when accelerating.
That is one of the things I miss from the Mustang we traded in for our Badland. As much as I love the Sport I really miss the Mustang! I got passed by a 2023 Mach I last night on I80 & I almost cried!

Speaking generally, not necessarily about the BS, most 4 cylinder engines are best kept muffled.

One exception is the Subaru boxer engine. When I went to Cobb Stage 2 on my 2002 WRX, that required replacing the downpipe. The stock pipe has 2 cats, the Cobb pipe has 1 high flow cat (a catless pipe was also available).

Just switching from 2 cats to one (well 2 total, it came stock with 3) -- all else stock (resonator, muffler) -- made an amazing difference! A nice tough sounding rumble when accelerating, but quiet when cruising or idling.

I wouldn't want it any louder, and/or droning on the highway. The Cobb cat flows enough for 350 hp and stage 2 is 285/285 so there was no reason to go with the catless pipe.

Since boxers are by definition opposing cylinders, they're generally more aurally pleasing. Even VW's (real OG bugs, not the new crap) sounded great with an extractor. The Porche flat six boxer is another example. Think of the difference in sound between an inline six and a V6. Same number of cylinders, but worlds apart sonically.

The only inlines that sound good on their own are large-displacement diesels.

Damn, that sounds good but how loud is it on the road. How is the drone when driving 60 down the highway for a prolonged period? Our Broncos are not the greatest when it comes to sound deadening.
Pretty silent, u just hear alot of the low end grunt these motors make at 2k rpms when in 8th gear, but i love that intake noise so no complaint, the waste gate is electronically operated so honestly the car stays quiet since the wastegate is closed till you lay on it. Then at 5k rpms she makes my favorite ecoboost 4 banger noise which i call the banshee scream. Where the air intake from the more freed up turbo just shrieks.
You can probably hear it in the 0-100 vid I posted but its more pronounced and nicer then the video showcases

Also some quick lil 0-60 rally on some silty dusty trails I got around me(in Australia 😉)
She gets really slidy on take offs but i couldnt really capture the faster clips on this 30 mile long trail road since i kinda had to keep both hands on past 60 but living my focus RS dirt driving dreams with my bronco. Smiles per gallon at 100% efficiency
