No criticisms, but too many folks perhaps don't understand the 4WD locking diff functions on these cars. First and foremost, never drive on anything but dirt, mud, or snow with the rear diff locked... never. The off-road cardinal rule is don't use it until you need to. Don't lock 4WD, don't drive in off-road GOAT modes other than Normal, Sport, or ECO on the road. Switching or all the off-road stuff tells the computer how to change the transmission shift points, fuel delivery, etc. Playing with these things is a no-no. They will cause these tools to break expensive stuff.

Ford really doesn't explain it very good.

It's like any 4x4, you don't engage it on any dry pavement. The surface that the wheels ride on need some give, like w/loose sand, gravel, ice, snow, and even heavy rain, otherwise the wheels will bind up.

In the case of the Badlands, it does have the clutches, but they do get heated up when used on dry pavement.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the Clutches are Dry Clutches, not oil lubricated/Cooled like w/normal Limited Slips.

I don’t use my bronco sport for off road activity. We have a side x side for fun. I just have it in case I need it.

I was just getting ready to post a new thread on this subject. RDU replacement, which I was just informed of needing. He said it's Only $2500 to replace rather than fix.
Going back and researching all the work I have had done that started with the dreaded Moaning noise when backing up.
Think I will contact Ford Corp as I have a Case number from that which took the dealership forever to listen to me an fix. The Moaning noise is back now BTW.
Of course it is now not under warranty, but Was when case was opened.
I have since given up on the Dealership I was going to and went to another, which Ford Corp suggested. A little better.
If they can't duplicate the issue when test driving or Check Engine light is not on, they basically ignore.
When I was last in for an oil change etc., I asked the service manager to look into this issue of the turning issue and moaning being all connected to the rear differential.
I went in for an inspection yesterday asked if he had looked into it. Nope, as I handed him the printout I did from a link on the forums about the RDU valve replacement that was suggested.
While the inspection and oil change was being done, he Then looked into it. That's where I got the Quote for RDU replacement!
I had them do a print out of what I have had done on the Bronco up to that point. Well, unfortunately the first dealership did not once put in their system about the moaning noise. One time a mention of a Scrubbing noise when in reverse. Never did I say this.
On the plus side, they did mention I reported the turning issue way back in August of 23. That is when they did a differential fluid change as they stated was contaminated (not stated in report that was cuz contaminated). The moaning noise when in reverse did go away after this, but has returned and they said not to do anything about until I need Brakes.
On another note, when in for these issues and went for a test drive with service manager to try and duplicate the turning noise/shudder. I asked if they recommend having a fuel injectors cleaned as I noticed a slight hesitation when accelerating. No, they Do not.
Just got a recall for a fuel injection problem, which they don't have a solution to as of yet. Hmmm, maybe they should listen to me.
Wish me luck in contacting Ford Corp.

Water pump replaced by Ford due to slow leakage 65k miles $1700.
Battery replaced by me with an AGM battery 72K miles $200.
Transmission replaced by local transmission shop 73k miles $6500. Transmission shop said these transmissions are horrible!
Still keeping the Bronco as it is paid for by just wondering what else will go wrong.

Sshhhh. It's like opening pandora's box! I too replaced my battery, probably a better one. Didn't notice til after the fact, that they did the battery replacement for the recall at my last visit to dealership. Nice going as the battery I put in was only a few months old!

It’s posts like this that make me happy to have the extended warranty, and also make me think I should sell it to Carvana before something like this does happen.

But no one except Ford knows the percentage impacted or expected to be impacted

~500,000 sold and counting and the percentage for RDU failure could be quite low… we just don’t know

That’s great. What does that have to do with me being happy i have the extended warranty in case it happens.

But specifically was the “also make me think I should sell it to Carvana before something like this does happen” is why I responded

You may already know this, but since they have issued a recall to replace the EFB battery with AGM I think you may be able to get Ford to reimburse you for the AGM that you had to purchase. We got a new AGM installed a month or two ago at no charge, including pickup and delivery of our BS by the dealer.
