I just noticed you wrote "tried" (past tense). Did Kyle leave the dealership or was that a typo?

Needless to say, no businessperson can spend a large amount of time helping people who most likely will not do business with them, but as you said, to the extent possible, doing so promotes good karma.

My family had a dog boarding kennel here in Maryland in the 1970s. After the first few months, my mother never paid for advertising. Word of mouth was all that was needed.

If/when I am asked for recommendations for a good Ford dealership, Long McArthur will be on the short list. I would let them know that I did not ultimately buy from Long McArthur (primarily due to dealers out here throwing tantrums when asked to perform warranty work on vehicles they did not sell) -- but based on my interactions with you and Kyle I'd be very surprised to learn that Long McArthur does not treat people right.
That should have said "tries".

Does anyone have a link to the official ford communication for this to show the price protection and that it is for the bronco sport? Screenshots are great but I’d love to be able to show my dealer the official Ford site in case they push back.

Good! I'm glad he's still there.

My wife and I have a small RV and drive through Kansas sometimes. I was thinking we might offer to buy him lunch for being such a decent guy.

I'm sure to you it's just normal behavior. Here in Maryland things are 'different'. My extended family used to visit from Iowa when I was younger and they were always shocked by how rude people are. It's a very different culture. That's not to say there are no nice people but they are harder to find.

We bought the RV from a lady in Riceville, Iowa. She sheepishly told us her friends warned her not to trust us and have her guard up because we were from "back east". That cracked me up! I tried to put her at ease by rattling off all of our relatives in Iowa but I could tell she was still leery, which was understandable.

I'm also not a lawyer, but there's no real property extant upon order. The dealership may contract to sell a vehicle at a specific price, but not the specific vehicle (as identified by the VIN) that is delivered to the dealership fitting the description of the order placed. A good lawyer could probably wriggle right out of a signed purchase order.
When I signed the sale order it had a number assigned to it, when I received my build date email it contained that number along with the VIN. Does that not make the signed sales order a binding contract for that VIN.?

Maybe, maybe not. It would all depend on the exact wording on the sales order. Only the words actually written are enforceable. If the sales order is specifically for the vehicle built because of that order number then maybe. I don't know that anyone has ever sued over this because it's never really been a thing before. Reordering from a different dealership never meant getting in the back of a multiple months long line until now.

When I ordered my second Badlands, the dealer didn't give me anything signed, which made me very nervous. I asked several times if my price would be MSRP and was assured it would be, but I fully expected to have a fight. Luckily, they did honor it, though the salesman who helped me when I picked it up said, "Wow, you got a great deal" with a tone that was like, "Man, wish we could get more."

I also told him as soon as he said he was going to get the paperwork that he should bring back a contract for exactly the price of the car plus taxes and fees, absolutely no add-ons. Since I'd bought my first Badlands from them nine months earlier, I think he understood I knew what I was talking about and wasn't going to play their games this time.

They did try to tell me that I wasn't going to get the $1,000 bonus cash in effect at the time of the order, saying "the computer" automatically pulls up any eligible offers and nothing they could do otherwise. I insisted and started searching my phone for the screenshots I had taken of the deal, and in the meantime, he went off and then came back saying they found the incentive attached to my individual account (as a note or something?) and would apply it. Of course, in the finance office, I noticed it wasn't in the contract, so I brought it up and the finance guy added it without hesitation, which makes me think he knew it should be there and was just hoping I wouldn't notice.

Unfortunately, a month or two later, I discovered roof damage that I confirmed had been there before I bought it (I had photos of it on the lot). Since I hadn't noticed it before signing the paperwork -- who inspects the roof? -- they say their hands are tied because they can't get their insurance to pay for the repair. You would think that after I bought TWO fully loaded Badlands from them in nine months, they'd willing to just pay what should be just a thousand or two to make things right with someone who's now gone from being a good customer to one who will tell everyone I know never to do business with them. I truly don't understand why car dealers have to default to shady at every turn.

Thanks for sharing your experience -- it sounds very similar to mine. The salesman and the finance guy both insisted the $1,000 order credit did not apply, until I found a Ford page that confirmed that it did. At that point -- without even looking at what I'd found -- they immediately caved and applied the $1,000.

I strongly suspect that there is some way for the salesman and/or dealership to snag the $1,000 credit if the customer is unaware they are entitled to it.

That meets the definition of FRAUD:

"Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain."
"he was convicted of fraud"

Since you have photos of the roof damage -- the dealer's (or Ford's, or the carrier's?) insurance should cover it. You might submit a claim to your ins co and let them fight it out.

As for the salesman who said, "Wow, you got a great deal" -- that sounds like it could have been fluff. A way to make the mark -- I mean customer -- feel good that does not cost the dealership anything. That said, it's all relative, and considering the current market you and I (and others here) did alright -- $1,000 credit; MSRP; no bs dealer add-ons; and in my case, 0.9% financing. Of course, in the 'before times' MSRP was a sucker price. Almost no one paid MSRP for an ordinary vehicle. But with people paying thousands over MSRP for a *used* BS off the lot, I'm OK with MSRP. Not to mention that on 4/13 the BS BL MSRP was jacked up $2,000, plus another $100 D&D (and $50 for the tow package, which we got).

We're rich, RICH I tells ya! The BS is the best investment out there, I don't care what Jim Cramer says!

I understand peoples desire to be cautious and on guard when buying a car. I think everyone has had a bad experience at one point or another in life, lord knows I have. I was once a fresh faced 18 year old who was just stepping off his first assigned base in the Navy. The car dealers just a few blocks from the base could smell me coming from a mile away....

Anyways I did want to point out that there are dealers who are not looking to rip you off as soon as you walk in the door. When I ordered my Jeep and Miata both dealers treated me well with no surprises.

Will things go well when my ladies Badlands arrives? I think so. Around the Austin Texas area her dealer is the only one listing prices as MSRP at tax and 150 doc fee. The others state "Call for price" or give a "Internet price" which is higher than MSRP. We put a 500 dollar deposit down and were given a "Drive out" price in email. That is what we agreed to and what we expect to pay minus the 1k from Ford for ordering the vehicle.

And if not? If they jack up the price and pull other bull we will walk. I think being prepared to walk away is important. No drama, no yelling, we walk. If that turns out to be the situation though I will certainly reach out to Ford and the dealership to see if someone is willing to correct the matter.

Anyways, just some thoughts from a random guy on the internet.

Just emailed my dealer with an attached image of the price protection policy to refute his claim that I'm responsible for any increases in price while I wait for my order. Let's see how this plays out tomorrow. Hopefully he just rolls over since I'm armed with knowledge. ?

Best thing that can happen for the dealer is for customers to walk on retail orders. They can charge what the market will bear at that point..

On a side note, I'm curious that they don't try to negotiate a higher than MSRP price at the time of order. It's almost like Ford has a policy or something.

You mean like A/Z plan?
Our dealer we ordered from straight up told us "go ahead and order it, if you decide you don't want it we will sell it to someone else." We also put no deposit down when we ordered.

I know it's not a plan price, and technically dealers can charge whatever the hell they want, but I think Ford at least frowns on dealers being deceptive in the process. I can't imagine any other transaction where you order a thing, sign the piece of paper that has a price on it, put down a deposit, and then find out when it arrives that the price is way higher than what was presented when it was ordered. Thankfully in this day an ill-treated customer can marshal some forces and slag a dealership online enough to hopefully force some change. If there was a way to buy new cars without dealerships they would all go out of business immediately.

Unless you have a sales contract you don’t have a lock ? price? Its the same thing you sign under contract prior the sale. If you had the General Manager physically sign off or had a text message thread saying he would honor x-plan or MSRP pricing then you have a leg to stand on. When I purchased my bronco the sales manager said he would not honor the pricing. I explained I had the Okay by the GM and begrudgingly he followed the invoice pricing. He did explicitly say if it was his deal he would never, ever do x-plan. Ford is pinching ? the dealers so bronco sport badlands are impossible to get without a pre-order, so the dealers do their best to make things go sideways. Lastl, some dealers are more ethical than others and you don’t know until the deal is done ✅

Ford states they will honor the pricing listed when you order. Now you may have a fight with your dealer, mine was awesome and never had to sign anything and I paid sticker minus the $1000 custom order discount, do you may have to play some dealer games but if you take it up with Ford they should back you
