I'm having my windshield and grill replaced tomorrow after some debris damaged/cracked both of them. Insurance company is telling me recalibrating the cameras is not needed. Is this correct? I can't find anything that states it's necessary in the owners manual or elsewhere.

For those of you that had your windshield replaced did the Camera get calibrated?

I can’t see why you would. I don’t believe there are any cameras in the windshield. When my wifes Honda had some work done recently, her blind spot sensor (camera) needed recalibration because they messed with her passenger mirror.

There is a camera in the housing behind the rearview mirror. Used for adaptive cruise, lane keeping, and road sign recognition.

The camera may need to be re-calibrated for the braking system to work properly for the cruise control, the emergency braking systems, and the lane keep assists.

Here is a video on the procedure directly from Ford.

So will an error code appear if calibration is needed? How is it determined?

I've never had to replace a windshield that has an ADAS system but from what I have read, depending on the system, it may put an error message on the dash.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was trying to figure out.

If the housing is attached to the windshield, then you would think it needs to be calibrated. They did the passenger door mirror on my wife’s car after an accident and they claim they never touched the mirror .

You have the right to get your car repaired where you want it repaired, not at the insurances' shop. You could take it to Ford to get the work done and I sure as heck bet they would say it needs that work done. Don't sign off on a repair until you're sure it works, otherwise insurance will tell you to take it up with your warranty.

I recently had some new tires installed and the shop noticed my cracked windshield, they said it would be easy to change windshield and calibrate camera/sensors. $750.00 for windshield before insurance.

I had the windshield replaced due to a crack a couple months ago. No recalibration was necessary and lane assist works correctly.

That's because in the BS there is no sensor in the mirror. The blind spot sensor in our cars, at least, is right below the taillight. If that's what you meant ...

I understood that. I didn’t think about the speed sign sensor as being a camera behind the windshield. I was referring to my wife’s Honda HRV that uses a camera mounted in the mirror as a blind spot monitor. That needed to be re calibrated at a high fee because the had to adjust the door.
