My husband has a 2021 Escape as a company car and it’s been making horrible brake noises for a while now when backing up. I’m glad they are fixing this.

So if your brake booster system is functional no worries however if you have a brake booster fail - loss of vacuum, etc (i.e. no power brakes) then you might experience out of compliance stopping distance.

That should make most people breath a little easier.
I just wish that Ford and the NHTSA would be a little more specific about what the actual problem is and not what could happen "IF" the booster fails. Also they should provide some info as to what prcautions should the owner take in the mean time until the recall can be remedied.

It seems from the amount of the responses and posts in this forum that any of the issues with the brakes is occurring while backing up. Unfortunately there is no mention in the recall notice about what and when the reason for the recall is occurring.

From another member in this forum that had an issue with the rear brakes before the recall, they got an updated set of brakes with an updated part number JX6Z2200E .

I checked online, and you can get these from a Ford dealer for $64. It would be a lot quicker than waiting for Ford to do the recall plus the time that they will have the vehicle for. However, since it is a warranty issue, you probably won't be reimbursed for the cost of the new pads.

This will be, or would have been, my first Ford. I clearly made the wrong choice. Mine was built 6/15 and has been stuck at the factory ever since. It is still awaiting replacement parts for the FDM recall, and now this? Not to mention the wide-spread, various other problems people are having with these.

It’s true what they say. American cars are crap.

The only problem with your last statement is that it isn't an American car. It's a Mexican car made with parts from all over the globe. It's only being made in Mexico by an American company - big difference.

Ford, an American company, engineered the Bronco Sport, an American car. Not hard to comprehend.

And there is also nothing stopping you from buying a "foreign" car if you so desire. No matter which one you choose, they all come with their problems. Nothing is made by just one company anymore and you will have to deal with quality control issues no matter what you buy and from who. If you believe otherwise you're just fooling yourself but that is your prerogative, and none of the above is hard to comprehend.

Let's face it. Anyone that's ever done brakes before goes into NAPA and the guy at the counter says "yeah, we have standard pads for cheap, performance pads for a little more, and the NAPA Gold for boku bucks." Then you take home the pads you wanted. Not once has any consumer ever asked the guy "hey, what's the friction coefficient of those pads?". If there was a real safety issue here, like the pads fly apart, or cause brake malfunctions I betcha Ford would say STOP DRIVING in the recall and get off their butts and get us all in to replace the pads asap.

They shipped the cars with the cheaper pads and are issuing a CYA recall. I'd say drive the car and get a free brake job out of it in the future. This recall should be more than a $65 part too. Pads and rotors wear together. A new set of pads on old rotors just doesn't mesh as nicely as new to new. Modern rotors are machined so close to tolerance that they usually can't be turned straight again. I don't care if a used rotor still has meat on it to be "legal" within tolerance rating. If they're putting pads on, I want a set of rotors too. I haven't looked at the Brakes closely. Does the Bronco Sport have captured rotors that require the hub to come apart for removal? That's a ton of work to do at home on a lot of really high torque bolts.

I agree much ado about nothing , everyone should be happy that Ford is updating their Vehicles through a recall & all of you who hate warranty work by their Dealer , should look for another Dealer . Ours was Build in Dec. of 2020 & has the Tow package & has no issues with the brakes .

The NTSB letter specifically targets vehicles with the vacuum booster. The tech specs from Ford state the vacuum booster is standard and the electric booster is an option. Has anybody figured out if the electric booster was included in any of the optional packages (tow package, 360+) or specific trim level (Badlands, First Edition)? I don't remember seeing this option being available back when I ordered the Bronco Sport.

Now I am not sure if its really that simple and if this is the part in question. But I looked at the brake booster on mine under the hood and part number lx6c-2d335-kd comes back as ELECTRIC ASSIST ABS BRAKE PUMP. So I am not sure if thats the booster they are talking about being either vacuum or electric. I can say if so I do not have the trailer tow, but do have CoPilot 360 Assist+ so maybe for the adaptive it has electronic...just a guess?

So this is the 3rd car I have had in its first model year. The last two were Lexus (NX and UX) and I had almost no issues with those. So far my BS has avoided being subject of any of the recalls, and I'm really enjoying it. Part of me wants to give Ford a pass since it is a brand new car and we're in some interesting times.
