Saw this error a couple days ago - anyone else seen this? New 2025 Badlands. No check engine light - got an actual message on display to get vehicle serviced (don't member exact wording). This is screenshot using Forscan where I could pull details. I actually have multiple codes - see second image. Can't say I'm to impressed after spending about 40K on a vehicle to see DTC's already - some non trivial.

All of those are stored codes and not active faults. The last two digits in the DTC is the status byte. When the status byte ends in an 8, it means the code is recorded in the vehicle's history, but not an active fault. Hard to say what triggerred the light to come on the dash, but whatever caused it seems to be gone now.

Below are the codes my truck is reporting to Ford's cloud. I hovered over the status byte to demonstrate. I do have active faults in my PCM for the air dam because I ripped that crap out of my truck, and the DSM code is there because of an issue 2021 trucks with deployable running boards have that require a bit of creativity to fix and that code is a byproduct of the fix.

The first pic date/time match when I was driving and got a message on the display to have vehicle serviced - never a check engine light at all. I wonder exactly what triggers a display message vs. a check engine light?

Hard to tell from a stored code, but if your Fordpass account is connected, message me the VIN and I can pull the connected data to see what it reported to the cloud the day it happened.

@logant Got your message, but responding here for the sake of the info being out there. As suspected, it is the PCM code that triggerred the hard fault. Notice how it changed from an active fault at 6:55pm to a stored code during the next key cycle. The fault type of 01 means general electric/circuit failure and the fault type of 14 is for a short circuit or open ground. Seems like it was just a random glitch in the matrix. If it doesn't happen again, I would no stress it.

Interesting - The 6:55 was while waiting for valet to park our car (anniversary dinner). While we sitting there I told my wife that I think this vehicle has a switch for this - to hold car with brake while waiting. I pressed it about that time and released it shortly afterward (seconds). The 8:28 would have been after dinner and heading home.

That's an interesting data image - what is required to get to that data? Is battery SOC 88% normal for a new vehicle? I'm sure the engine/alternator was always running while we were in the car for the entire trip. I'm curious because I connected a 2 amp NOCO trickle charger up overnight and it never went to green/charged

Thanks for info!

I have access to Ford's dealer website called PTS; also known as OASIS. Anyone can buy access. 3 days is $27 and a year is about $2500.

88% is fine. I do the same as you. I put my Fords on a charger once a month to top it off. These newer vehicles put s heavy strain on 12v batteries; Sync 4 even more so. You can hear modules clicking and clacking in my F150 after it's been parked and locked for hours. I've gone through three 12v batteries in my truck in 4.5 years and only 25k miles. I learned my lesson with the third one and went aftermarket on bigger on the third one. The OEM Ford batteries are hot garbage, imo.

Wow - I was going to ask about all the relay clicking I hear a lot of while my BS is parked. It's hard to believe Ford has that much crap running in background. It seems all they need is the key fob receiver running and maybe one other thing - but nothing clicking. I'm an engineer - and that seems like bad engineering to me. At one time I did electrical control system design on business jets - and we had nothing running once powered down

Thanks for info!

Pardon my ignorance (I'm not an engineer) but what exactly is that "clicking and clacking " going on when my 2025 BSBB is parked ?

Also, can you recommend a good battery charger for a monthly top up. We've had a very cold winter here in Ontario (several nights at - 25 C) but I must say the Ford battery has performed well so far.

Many thanks !

I'm not 100% sure about all the clicking. It sounds like relays which are switches turned on and off by an electric coil magnet. I've heard that the whining noise is fans on the LED headlights. I know on my badlands the fans come on even if the headlights were not on previous to them starting.

A lot of people swear by the NOCO chargers. I put a 2 amp on mine and it never (overnight) got to a full charge so I am thinking of getting the 5 amp and trying that. I would recommend not getting one if those Chinese chargers that have a fan inside as I worry about what happens when the cheap fan dies

I’ve got a Battery Tender Jr and it’s fine. I don’t think you need to go to 5 amps. I only have to use it in the summer because that when it sits the most.

It appears after reading you have somebody really working on this for you. The only reason I'm adding my two cents is the same thing happened to me after purchasing my 2024 Badlands. On said day I walked into dealership unannounced, quickly picked out the vehicle I wanted to test drive, purchased it, did the paperwork, drove down the freeway about 15 mi I get a similar reading on the screen, scared the crap out of me, pulled off road, shut the engine off, started again and another message similar appeared , drove it home parked it and put it on a trickler for about 6 hours. Never did it again and I've got 13,000 miles on that vehicle. I think what happened was the dealer didn't charge the battery after it was sitting for sale in the lot for a couple months. Been a champ ever since.

I'm not an engineer, either. Heck, I'm not even a tech. I'm just a car salesman who likes to tinker and has learned a thing or two in the process. However, I have no idea why these vehicles make clicking noises. I thought it was abnormal until I saw other owners reporting the same thing on the forums.

Thanks for your recommendations about chargers.

Yes, I hear that headlight fan noise even after the BB has been parked in the cold for several hours.

In some ways I look back fondly at my old 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan (it was finally overcome by rust). According to my mechanic, it had a grand total of 2 "computers" on board and the most advanced technology it had was a built in CD player !

But, she gave me 200,000 km of reliable service !

Cheers
