Thanks for posting, @Traveler!

Here's the info for yours. This seems to be working. As you can see below (circled in red) this shows only a three-way catalyst and no GPF.

If people want to check their vehicle without crawling under it and want instructions, let me know.

Well, son of a…

This was built for AZ delivery. WTF.

Now I want to find out if I can have an exhaust shop remove it, what effect it will have on the car and the warranty.

I think it may be difficult to find an exhaust shop to remove it because it's technically a federal offense to do so (anti-tampering laws), unless you find or know of a shop that just doesn't care or feels comfortable that you will keep their name out of it if anything ever comes of it. The other issue you will almost certainly have is a persistent OBD fault/check engine light, since there will either be hardware missing (i.e. pressure sensors removed causing circuit faults) OR if the pressure sensors are left connected to read only ambient pressure, I believe the PCM will see this as a missing substrate and will set a fault/check engine light for that condition.

Pretty much what I thought. Think I’ll pay a visit to Sanderson and verify it’s actually installed, and if so see what my options are to remedy.

Please let me know what you find if you decide to take it in. Would love to confirm that method works. Good luck... let us know what your options are and what you decide.

Just curious what your build date was? trying to pin down when they started installing them. Mine was built 11/25

I was bummed out intially as well and had initial thoughts about how to remove it. I figure I'll just wait until I tear it off on some rocks or one of my local fenty freaks cuts it off. Serioiusly though I'm just not going to worry about it. I was looking into some additional underbody protection and I hope the JCR Catalytic Coverter Skid fits. I reached out to them to check, it might not work the GPF is quite a bit larger than the secondary cat.

Well on the bright side if that day comes it may be easier to sell in a Carb compliant state unlike some without one. Maybe we'll save a baby seal too.

I'm curious what is the process your going throuh to generate this from the VECI sticker under the hood is? Isn't all we really need to know right on the sticker already, highlighted in red here in my case?

You can remove the VIN from the thread. @incavulator found a way to determine this that anyone can do. Look at page two of this thread and look at the sticker under your hood.....it will say if your vehicle was built with a GPF or not.

Ha!!! Yes. You are correct. I did mine first and since mine doesn't have a GPF, I didn't know if it would be there or not. After doing the research on mine by finding the certification information on the EPA website, I kept using that same method and didn't even notice it said "GPF" right on the label when you posted it. Talk about a "DUH" moment (for me)!!!

This method is CLEARLY easier! Just read it.

LOL at the "fenty freaks cutting it off!"

I don't think it's THAT big of a deal. I do agree that I would certainly prefer a BS without a GPF, but it's really just a catalyst with no precious metal or wash coat designed to collect soot/particulate matter. It certainly adds some backpressure - I think that's really the only downside, other than the risk of the additional malfunctions due to the extra hardware.

The backpressure is a function of how much soot is currently stored in it. It's HIGHLY likely it performs a regeneration event (burns off the soot) whenever you decelerate and fuel shuts off. Soot is generated mostly during cold starts. So, if you don't want it to get full of soot, don't perform a bunch of cold starts without also performing some coast downs during your drive cycle. The VAST majority of people should have a very hard time getting it overloaded with soot, but they are relatively new to our market (at least in high volume) and there is probably more to be learned as they are installed on more vehicles and are out in the field for a longer period of time.

There is no horsepower loss with the GPF, I remember reading something a few months ago stating it.

I don't believe that's correct. It may be small, but I don't believe there is no loss. Just the fact that there is an added substrate will add some amount of backpressure. As it becomes loaded with soot, the backpressure increases. That's how/why the pressure sensors are used to determine if it's clogged or not. It's the same reason people would put "off-road exhaust systems" on their cars, to remove the catalysts ,which reduces back pressure and increases horsepower. In addition, these GPFs are designed with alternating plugs at the end of each of the "tubes" in the ceramic substrate, forcing the exhaust gasses to flow through the porous walls as shown by the drawing below.

Someone may market it as no reduction in HP, but that would be very surprising considering the very method used to determine if the GPF is overloaded or plugged is effectively a measurement of backpressure, and the laws of physics say backpressure reduces flow, which reduces HP (peak anyway). There may be no reduction in peak "advertised" HP, but I'll bet if you ran two tests on a dyno engine - one with and one without a GPF (especially one that has some soot in it), you could measure the difference.

Hey I read it too and it didn’t sink in until I read another that didn’t have a GPF . I guess it’s obvious if you know what your looking for but I sure didn’t 👍🏼
