I figured that with the 1.5 you’d do better than that, even on the trail. But I don’t know what level of trails you usually ride.

On my BLSas I get around 20 in town and can get near 26 with more open road/long haul trips. Don’t have enough off road for a fair estimate though, but plan to change that soon, starting with Castle Hot Springs Road, weather permitting.

I think we have the same 1.5 engine as yours in our 2025 Big Bend. The trip to our cabin in central Ontario includes about 200 km of highway driving (speed limit of 100 km/hour). On several trips last summer the gas mileage on the highway was as low as 7 litres/100 km. Is that about 30 mpg ?

That's great mileage whether it's mpg or litres/100 km !

I have a ‘24 Big Bend and around town I get 10.5-12.5 L/100 km. Thats 22.6-25.9 mpg, but thats Imperial gallons which are larger than US. In US terms thats 18.8-22’4 mpg.

Oddly I haven’t really paid attention on the highway yet, but I saw 9.0 L/100 km. or about 31.3 Imp or
26.1 US mpg.

I began using 87 octane initially, but for awhile now I use 91.

Seriously, have you found any differences in gas consumption or engine performance using the higher octane gas in the BB ?

When I started using the higher octane something was different performance wise. It didn’t feel radically different, but there seemed to be a bit snappier performance overall and a bit better throttle response. Fuel economy did improve over time by a few miles per gallon, but again not drastically.

Even in Eco mode I find my Bronco Sport quick and fun to drive. I never feel it’s short on power or responsiveness. In driving style I don’t throw it around and generally don’t do hard acceleration and deceleration for no reason even though I do generally like to drive briskly. If the traffic gets dense I don’t waste my time trying to dodge in-and-out and around everyone to get ahead wherein you inevitably have to brake hard repeatedly and accelerate hard to get ahead. It’s not worth the frustration and you never really get where you’re going any quicker. Better to relax and when possible plan your trip when traffic is likely to be lighter.

I’m getting decent mileage and better than my previous vehicle, and if I was really worried about fuel economy I would have bought something different like the VW Jetta with Sport Package I had been considering.

I’m very happy overall with my Bronco Sport. If I had any criticisms they are very minor. I would have liked to have had body-colour door handles to go with the body-colour roof, but it is what it is. And it might have been nice if the Bronco Sport had a manual transmission option. With today’s automatics the fuel economy wouldn’t be any better with a manual, but it would have been a bit more fun.

The Ford ECO boost engines are one of the few engines that will run fine on 87 but will see improved performance running on 91. I’ve always found the improved performance was normally worse as far as gas mileage. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the loose nut behind the wheel and the constant pressure on the skinny pedal.

My lifetime average after 34 months is 24.4 MPG. 2.0L Heritage Limited, 87 octane exclusively.

Unfortunately, the difference for us where I live is about 1.50 usd so I’d just be throwing good money away for extra performance I don’t really need. Not sure why you think it’s better for the engine unless your 91 octane is tier one and your 87 octane isn’t. The higher octane rating isn’t better for your engine unless your engine can’t adjust the timing. Now tier one vs. tier two is definitely better for your modern engine. That’s my opinion. YMMV.

It’s the accessories. I have the 2.0. With ski rack and winter tires I’m at 23. Summer tires and no rack 26. Most of my driving is freeway up and down mountains

You are absolutely correct. My mileage on the highway with two bikes mounted isn’t any better than in town without. I lose about 6 mpg with bikes mounted doing 75mph.
