For a year now I’ve been trying to understand why the interior chime sometimes sounds and sometimes doesn’t when I turn off the car.

I put the car in park, pull the parking brake and with foot on the brake turn off the ignition. Then a chime sounds…sometimes. It doesn’t seem to be consistent. And I don’t undo my seatbelt until after I’ve turned off the car.

It’s a mystery…

That’s correct - there’s a post somewhere on this forum about this topic and I’m 90% sure an exact cause hasn’t been found

Today I’ve been hyper aware of it and I just might have found a clue, as bizarre as it may sound.

If I turn things off in a somewhat leisurely manner—put it in Park, pull handbrake, turn off music and turn off ignition—the chime doesn’t sound. Unfastening your seatbelt before or after turning off the ignition doesn’t seem to matter. But if I do the same procedure in a somewhat more hasty manner then I hear the chime.

I’ll try to watch for it again, but if this is what it is then thats freakin’ weird.

So far my notion seems correct. If I don't turn things off hastily the chime doesn't sound.

My wife hates using her seat belt. We live in a gated community with a private drive to the security gate. As soon as we hit that private drive, she unbuckles. and I have to listed to the annoying ding, ding, ding until we get into the garage.

I know that the easiest solution is for her to change her behavior, but, c'mon, guys, you all know how that ends.

I am looking for a solution.

Quite interested in the Forsan thing, as mentioned by @Quashish. It would cost me a bit on equipment, and not sure that it's worth the investment. Ear plugs might be a cheaper solution.

I don't understand. Whenever I hear the chime it sounds four or five times then stops. I've never heard it sound nonstop.

@dwrufus53 its worth it for what you can do with it. only thing that might not work for you is global windows.
and the fact that I'm an Apple/Mac guy. Software only runs on Windows, right?

Correct, for the full write capability. iOS FORScan is read-only. There’s always Parallels or other VM for the Mac. A cheap Windows laptop may be simpler and cheaper in the long run. This is coming from an Apple guy since 1977.
