I have had this happen twice in last three month. Again this morning. Driving at speed with cruise on. Then slowing to 20 or so, the BS BL started violently shaking. Pulled over and turned off. turned back on and kept to lower speed and went ok.

The last time, it behaved well for months and now this again. It makes me nervous.

2021 BS Badlands with 38000.

has anyone sussed out what’s happening? Or learned what to tell the dealer?
The dealer told me this was likely related to the issue described in TSB 24-2185. They took the car for two days to complete the service,

The TSB repair has been done. I can't really tell if the problem was addressed because it seems to be intermittent. But the symptoms seem consistent.

There is a small "thunk" or sound when I shift from reverse to drive. Like the transmission is adjusting itself. I don't know if that is normal or expected. The dealer has not responded to me about that. I may have to go back to ask them.

Does anyone else hear small noises when you shift directions?

I do, exactly as you said: "There is a small "thunk" or sound when I shift from reverse to drive"
I was told it's performance as design

I know I am late to the thread but I have what I believe is a similar issue on my 24 BS but could you provide some additional detail? Mine will sometimes buck/surge after a cold start. Especially after sitting over night. The buck/surge will happen as I initially drive out of my neighborhood at about 15-20 mph and once I leave the neighborhood and everything warms up it goes away and the transmission shifts normally. I have experienced the same issue on my 2019 Edge with the same 2.0L engine and transmission and the issue never went away.

For the Edge there was a TSB to reflash the software but that did not help. MC-10203649-0001.pdf There is a long thread on the Ford Edge forum about this issue and I do not think anyone has ever come up with a fix that worked. The thread is currently 17 pages and growing: https://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/26728-edge-low-speed-surgebuck-transmission/

If I recall correctly some have had the transmission and torque converters replaced for the issue but it did not solve the issue.

From repair record:
Solenoids A and F were replaced, but the issue persisted, so the main control valve body was replaced, and an adaptive test was performed. The vehicle is now operating properly!!
Thank you again for this. I gave your notes to my service dept and it gave them a place to start. They were able to reproduce the lurching in the shop. They're replacing the whole transmission!

Report. A month or so after the dealer did the TSB repair, things are smooth. Fingers crossed.

My transmission was replaced with another bad transmission. Why can't this company make safe cars that work? 10K miles, the issue started at 4K

Brand new 2024 Bronco Sport Badlands - bucking at low speeds. The whole car randomly shakes. Also very slow start in the morning or after parked for a while. Does anyone know what this bucking is?

Saw that parts were replaced within the transmission but wanted to give my 2cents as a tuned badlands driver. Even made a new account for this.
One thing ive noticed with my accessport is i measure transmission temps.
The transmission seems to get "sticky" or trys to "bump" as it tries to get into gear especially if your driving super slow( you may even notice when getting to 2k rpms where the car likes to shift between 3-5 that the RPM gauge also buckles and you feel it in the pedal untill it finally gets into gear)
Once the trans is above 100Degrees F it doesnt do that lurching between the gears so now i have gained a habit of waiting till am over 100 before setting off.
My best guess is without adequate temp the trans fluid isnt viscous enough for thoses shifts
I think you are on the right track with your comments. Regarding your comment about the trans reaching a certain temperature, the 8f35 actually has an internal heater built in. Please read my Post #52 where I describe what I have been experiencing to different degrees in 3 different Fords so far. 2020 Ford Escape, 2019 Ford Edge and my 2024 Ford Bronco Sport. All have the 2.0L engine with the 8F35 transmission. The surging/bucking is intermittent and mostly only happens while I am driving the vehicle after sitting over night. My BS is actually at the dealer right now for other issues and I asked them to check the surging/bucking if nothing else but to document to Ford the issue but they can not duplicate it I suspect because it only happens sometimes and they have to get out of the parking lot where they will be going too slow to recreate the surge/bucking. In my cases the issue mostly happens in warmer outside temperatures.

If you look at the 2019 Ford Edge thread I bookmarked you will see that replacing the torque converter and/or the transmission did not resolve the issue. I had my torque converter replaced on the Edge because of shuttering while at highway speeds. It did not fix th slow speed surging/bucking. I think some on the Edge site are looking to start a class action lawsuit. My Edge is 6 years old and so far even though the surging/bucking happens intermittently, the transmission has not failed. Being that it has been happening to my last 3 fords with the same transmission at this point I chalk the issue up to a quirk in the transmission that Ford does not know how to fix. Wouldn't be the first time Fords and I am sure other manufacturers have had some issue that they really couldn't fix because there is a design flaw or something does not operate as intended once out in the real world and sometimes it is something that Ford can't fix so the consumers options are limited to living with the issue or trading the car in which is not always an option.

Please read my post above commenting on Dukacola's previous post and post #52. Does my posts describe the condition you are having or is your surging issue different?
