Got a letter from my dealership offering us to trade in our 2023 Outer Banks for a 2025 Outer Banks; no money down, and same financing (payment would go up $49.00 a month).

I'm considering this, as our warranty expires in 9 months (we only have 15K on the odometer) but the 36 month will come first (9 months) and we did not buy an extended warranty; I could buy it ad about $2400.00, but I'm also coming close to needed new tires in the future.

What do you all think? As much as I dislike the current dealership, this seems like a reasonable deal.

I’d focus on whether you’re getting a fair trade value and the sales price on the ‘25 than the payment.

Those offers are also notoriously better in the letter than at the F&I desk once all is said & done.

They are offering $29,500.00 for my 2023 Outer Banks trade, Employee pricing, and $1000.00 loyalty customer incentive.

Have not seen what they are asking for the 2025 Outer Banks, nor have I seen their interest rate yet.

The "letter" is an infamous sales ploy to get people in the dealership. Most of the time they are sent out by a 3rd party marketing firm and the people at the dealership aren't even aware of the mailings. Last time I got one, it had a ridiculous offer for my current car. I reached out to my salesperson at the dealership with some pointed questions about the "offer". Never heard back, never got another letter

I agree.
The $29500 trade in number seems high for a '23 OBX. You should be able to buy a '25 for under employee pricing too.
Do a Carvana work up on the '23 OBX.

Is there anything wrong with the one you have now? If not, why are you considering trading to a newer one just for the sake of a newer one, or because the dealership is offering?

I have found that CarMax will give you a really good price for selling the car to them. Enough to offset any tax savings on the trade-in the dealer will give you. I just ordered a 2025 Escape with Employee Pricing to replace my 2019 Edge and CarMax is $3,000 higher that the initial dealer trade-in value for the Edge that the dealer gave me while I had it in for service. It was another dealer program similar to getting a letter saying we want your car.
I can't talk about the trade-in value yet with the dealer since the new car is an order and have to wait until it comes in before getting a real trade-in number. It seems worst (or best case) I sell it to CarMax).

As my first post pointed out, my warranty expires in less than 9 months. I can either pay $2500.00 for the extended warranty, or think of trading it in.

The letter was verified via a phone call to the dealer sales manager. I'll stop by for the heck of it, prepared to walk out if its a gimmick.

We are also considering a Jeep Gladiator, as I sold my truck awhile back, and we have been missing its functionality.

Have you considered a Maverick? I think the Gladiators are considerably more expensive than the Maverick.

A bit more as Stellantis is giving really big discounts on Gladiators.

I've sold 3 vehicles to Carvana after checking with CarMax. No sales tax here, so no tax benefit with trade in. I guess it depends on where you live. Bucko should do a workup on both.

You have made 24 Payments on your current car, plus any down payment you made when purchasing. How much is that? Now your payment is going up $49. per month for how many months, 72 or 84? Let's say your payment it only $450 now, that is 450 times the 24 payments, plus the 500 per month for the new financing that your re-extend for when you re-finance the new car. That will be $12,000 for additional 24 payments that you extend for and the, let's say 48 months of base payments with $50 per month added to them for another $2400 in increase, plus the base of $500 per month for a whole bunch compared to getting the 100K top of the line extended warranty. Now of course if you just don't like the color of yours, or perhaps you have had problems, then no matter what is said here, go buy yourself a new car, but change colors, so you know you did. LOL Don't get suckered!!
