Is there a way to turn on cruise control without lane keeping?

I appreciate the features in the vehicle, but I don’t like the lane keeping. Every time I turn on cruise control, the lane keeping also turn on. I haven’t found a way around that. Anyone know? 2025 BS Big Bend

In my 2022 there is a switch for lane keeping at the end of the turn signal stalk. I would hope that there is a way for you to turn it off in the new models. I don’t like it or use it, however the lane centering is great when using adaptive cruise control.

Have you checked the manual?

The manual doesn’t even mention that turning on cruise control also turns on lane keeping, but I tried it a few times, and it definitely does. I did go into the “features” in the vehicle display and set cruise control to normal instead of adaptive. I will see if that takes care of it.

Hope so. If not ask at the dealership. Salesman are supposed to familiarize their customers with these infernal contraptions.

Right. I don’t understand why they have a “settings” and “features” menus. Anyway, that’s about all I can find, so if it doesn’t work, I may call the dealer. I’m not driving there if it can’t be done.

Do you see the little steering wheel icon when you turn on cruise? If so, that it active lane centering. You can disable it by pressing the ”/ \” looking button on the left side of the wheel.

There's a difference between lane keeping and lane centering. Lane keeping functions independently of the cruise control; lane centering is integral to the cruise control. You can turn on the cruise control and deactivate lane centering by pressing the lane centering button on the steering wheel. See your owners manual for the correct button.

There is a PID to change the default behavior from active lane assist to warning only. Buy the FORScan $20 license and the recommended dongle if you don’t like the default behavior. Keep in mind that insurance companies and lawyers will be able to retrieve this information and use it if you were to bring a lawsuit or were sued by a victim.

Are you referring to 2025 models?

The ‘21-‘24 models have a setting for that under a Sync 3 Settings screen

I've never noticed this when using cruise control.

However, the screaming red dashboard screen flashing of death that I'll get when I approach a vehicle while excellerating is an enjoyable site to see.

I have gotten it to tolerable levels. I set the cruise control to regular and the lane control to low alert. I may still check with the dealer. I do appreciate everybody’s input. I have been driving a long time, and don’t need assistance. I drove a garbage truck for a couple of years, and trust me, people cut you no slack in one of those.

I set the cruise control to regular and the lane control to low alert.
You can change the following distance for the adaptive cruise control, but I don't believe you can change the sensitivity of the lane centering feature--it's either on or off. If you turn off lane centering using the button on your steering wheel it says off even if shut the engine down and restart.

The lane keeping system (different system than lane centering) can "nudge" the wheel when you get close to a lane line and/or it can provide an alert that simulates a rumble strip. You can decrease the amplitude of the alert (how much the steering wheel vibrates), but I don't believe you can change the sensitivity. If you don't think you need steering assistance and/or notification when approaching a lane line (I'm with you) you can also simply turn it off entirely (press the button on the end of your turn signal stalk).

I totally understand that I can turn off this feature with a button, but I would prefer that it could be programmed not to go on in the first place. I tuned my 2019 Ranger with an SCT flash tuner just so I wouldn’t have to push the button every time I drove it so that it wouldn’t shut the engine off. That is not the question I asked in the first place. I’m still working on getting it set up the way I like. Nobody has the right answer so far, so maybe I will have to call the dealer.

No need to speak to your dealer. Once you turn off lane keeping assist with the button on the end of your turn signal stalk it stays off until you turn it back on. Same goes for lane centering; turn it off with the button on your steering wheel and it will stay off until you turn it back on. This applies even if you turn off the engine and restart--both will stay off until you turn them back on.

I've bumped that button at the end of the stalk a few times inadvertently and turned it on. I don't care for the lane keeping at all, it's way too imprecise. Lane centering, on the other hand is much better, especially when used with the ACC. Not perfect, but much better than cruise control alone.
