Hi All,

I have decided to buy a second vehicle, something more for me than the family. I want something that I can go off-road with. I’m not going to be doing any extreme off-roading, I just want to be able to take off into the woods, explore logging roads, etc. I really like the look of the Bronco and love the modular approach to the vehicles and how customizable they are. But I had real trouble finding the vehicle I wanted, at the price I wanted. So I have become frustrated and have given up on a Bronco and need to move to plan B... a Ford Ranger. A Ranger would give me the same frame and engine as the Bronco and I could get a Ranger with the FX4 Off-Road Package and save 10K over the price of a similar Bronco.

Or maybe I should go for the Bronco Sport? It would probably do everything I need and be more car like. But I'm unsure how the Bronco Sport really is for off-road. And the Ranger and Bronco Sport I am having trouble comparing them. I have driven both and they are very different. I currently drive an Escape (my second). So a Sport would be plenty familiar. I'm just not sure if that is good, bad or neutral.

If I sound indecisive, its because I am. The Bronco, Bronco Sport and Ranger all have pros and cons and I keep changing my mind. I am really uncertain which route to go and would really appreciate any advice people who have a Bronco Sport could offer.

Thanks

If you're a tall and big guy, the Raptor or Bronco should fits you better. The BS BL is a very capable off road vehicle but it's kinda "small" for a big guy.
If I can I should get the Ranger Raptor for sure. My 3 tops:
Ranger Raptor
Bronco Everglades
Bronco Sport Badlands with the Sasquatch package

The BS Badlands will do that with no problems. That’s exactly what it’s designed for. Of course, the mind and heart have different wants ?

What about an AWD Maverick since it's also on the same chassis as the BS and Escape? I have a 2025 AWD XLT Maverick with the 2.0 EB and Love it!! I had a BS BB before the Maverick but had some issues with it and got rid of it and got the Maverick and couldn't be Happier and it was cheaper than the 2023 BS BB i had.!!

Three different vehicles. Something you alone must decide for your needs.

If you are smart, it shouldn't be a Ford product. As I said in another thread, my 22 BSOB is the first Ford that I have ever owned. I cannot believe the number of recalls (4) that I have experienced in the three years of ownership. And, the service advisor told me to expect at least two more! This, coupled with the recalls on a number of other Ford models, should be a clear message to you.

Don’t let early model recalls scare you off. I have a 2023 BS Outerbanks and a 2024 Maverick Lariat Hybrid. A couple of minor recalls on each that were basically software related but not a single actual problem with either vehicle. Knock on wood of course.
I agree with the poster that mention your size as a deciding factor.

Add in the new 1.5L has a gear driven oil pump vs a belt-driven one on the earlier models.

I traded my Ranger in for a Bronco Sport, so I have driven both. The Ranger had more power with the 2.3l engine, but mine was not 4x4. Either will work, but if you go with a Ranger I suggest getting a 4x4. I never got stuck with the Ranger, but I was concerned a couple times with steep gravel hills.
