Does anyone have information on transmission issues? I have a 2022 Big Bend Bronco Sport with 76,000 and I was just quoted $13,000 for a transmission rebuild. My vehicle has been nothing but trouble from the beginning with an electrical issue early on that cost nearly $1000, replacement of the catalytic converter for $1600 and now this extremely costly repair, all just out of warranty. This vehicle is less than 3 years old and has had to be towed to the dealership for repair twice. This seems extremely unreliable. With rental car cost and lost time in the shop, this vehicle has been a huge financial drain on my family. Any ideas on how to proceed are welcome.

I am assuming it is currently not drivable and is sitting at the dealer. What about the cost of replacing the transmission with a rebuilt one instead of the dealer rebuilding it? Which option is less expensive? I would also get estimates for a transmission rebuild or replaced at a reputable private transmission shop if possible. Of course I would expect them to say they can't give you a complete estimate without seeing the vehicle.

Considering all of the issues you have had especially if it is still drivable I would also get an estimate for trading in "as is" vs repaired. The difference might be less than the actual repair cost which could be another option and you could just walk away from it but be prepared for the dealer to try and take advantage of the situation.

$13K for a rebuild, not new? Ridiculous.

Tow it to a private shop and get a quote on a transmission from a wrecked vehicle if possible.

I have seen low mile used transmissions in eBay for less than 2 grand. Find an independent shop and pay them the 1000 to 1200 in labor and you're good to go. My 96k mile BS trans has been perfect. I went with a used transmission in my 15 Fiesta at 150k miles and now the car has 380k and that trans is still perfect. Don't discount used parts

A week or so ago I was driving in cruise control. When I hit the brakes, the car stayed in the lower gear. I had to pull over, turn the car off, and the continue on my trip with no issues. A week later, I pulled into a parking lot, put the car in reverse, and suddenly had no gears. Turned the vehicle off and was able to get it in drive and limp home. After research, I thought it could be the TCM, so I unhooked the battery terminal in an attempt to reset. When I went in the morning to start the car, it wouldn’t go into any gear. It actually lurched forward when in reverse. I then had it towed to the dealership. It’s there now, I was told it needs a new transmission and quoted that potential price. They were going to check with Ford Credit as it’s out of warranty and get back to me, that was two days ago.

Sorry about the two threads, that was unintentional, I’ve attempted unsuccessfully to remove the other one, I’ll try again shortly.

Great idea, I know a reputable repair shop that I trust. The car is not drivable. I will also research the trade option, main issue there being that as the vehicle is less than three years old and was financed brand new, I was barely break even in trade value for a working vehicle, I will be extremely underwater with the current condition it is in.

I am strongly considering this depending on what I hear back from the dealership. I know a reputable private shop.

Thanks for the input. This seems to be nearing consensus. I’m strongly considering this.

Sorry Thomas, everyone has been helpful and kind, and I appreciate that. It’s been a stressful couple of days as you could imagine.

I believe Ford just issued recalls on other vehicles with this issue earlier this week (big Bronco among them). Wonder if this will become a widespread issue with the BS… ?
