I have searched and hopefully found the articles about these little rats, but they were mostly from 2022. Has anyone come up with better solution for keeping them out? Just got my brand new 2024 BS Big Bend in Sept 2024. Went to the store and engine light came on on way back...pulled over there was a nest and a vacuum hose chewed off. Damn! We live in the pine forest of East Texas, and don't have a garage. This is first new car in over 12 years...please offer some solutions, as we are desperate seniors (not dead yet)! Thanks gang!

Heard Peppermint oil keeps them away
Quashish! You always seem to say something valuable and it is appreciated! I'll look for the mouse tape. We had these cans of peppermint oil in the engine compartment right next to the motor...but apparently, the little buggars were not impressed.

Agreed! We do have some barn cats, but they don't know where the barn is...we are looking for some more cats as we speak.
They need to be somewhat hungry or need to like the taste of whatever is infesting your vehicle

I use a auto setting trap. I have more of an issue with squirrels.

I don't have a meeses problem, rabbits did get into my sons car and chewed through his Taurus' bundled wiring and he had to replace the whole thing, he wrapped it with duck tape. That and original Irish Spring soap stopped them from coming back. I cut pieces of the soap and placed them all around the garage inside and under the cars as well as spraying peppermint oil around the garage floor, at doorways and around trash cans.

I’ve heard that Irish Spring soap works as well.

I'm going to try that! I have no clue as to what the dealer will charge to undo the damage to the vacuum line on my 5 month old BS...

Irish Spring doesn't work. Lights don't work. Electronic gadgets don't work, nor mothballs, or drier sheets or almost anything else.

Mousetap Monday, Myth buster's Playlist.

Cats, traps and mint oil.

Just had a mouse intruder experience a few days ago in my '21 BSBB. I had a sealed/wrapped snack in the glove box which must have attracted it into the car. Saw evidence of the rodent in the glove box (the snack was completely consumed) as well as in the area around the spare tire. Placed a snap trap in the rear and the passenger footwell. The trap proved effective the very next day and the critter was dispatched. Have also placed peppermint soaked cotton balls throughout the interior of the BSBB to help keep them away. Lesson learned! No more food in the car!
