it seems to come on when it wants to..
There's a switch on your center console to turn it on and off. When engaged you'll see a green A in a circle on your instrument panel.

Which is what I press right after starting the Bronco. Start the engine, press the act/deact button, put in gear and go.

The Auto Hold function remembers how it was set between run cycles. Perhaps you are referring to the Auto Start/Stop system.

Taking your foot off the brake does start the engine however you said you had auto hold set on and the assumption is you took your foot off the brake already .. after a few seconds (with the foot off the brake), let’s say auto stop start engages and the engine shut off ……

now you need to do something to restart the engine like pressing on the accelerator, turning the steering wheel slightly, etc.
Ok my mistake, I am wrong.. I was mistaking that weird button for the automatic hill start stop.

now the question is if it already holds the break on hill start/stop why do you need that button? is it for a different situation?

I never turn it off. in the summer it is active right away, I found in the winter some times you are driving quite a bit before it will start working. making sure the battery is up and temp is up I am assuming

I'm not talking about Auto Stop/Start, I'm talking about Auto Hold. Grab your owner's manual and look in the index for "Auto Hold."

The Auto Hold will hold the brake for you when you stop for traffic or at a light. You don't need to keep your foot on the brake pedal.

Auto hold is nice … when you come to a complete stop at a light you can take your foot off the brake and the vehicle remains stopped until you press the accelerator (or disable the auto hold). Useful in other situations too. Give it a try just recommend practice in an empty parking lot until you are used to it.

I was indeed. Thanks for the correction.

hmm, I'll probably never use that feature, I guess it would be handy if you have to turn around and grab something out of the back seat while stopped quick, I normally would just put it in park, but that's an option

??? Here's your post I replied to:

This describes typical behavior of the Auto Start/Stop system. Auto Hold does not require a warm up period, and it works whether the battery is fully charged or not. Are you saying the Auto Hold in your car does not function all the time when you have it engaged?

It's possible to slow down and come to a complete stop without Auto Hold engaging, but it requires a deliberate effort to use as little brake pressure as possible. Perhaps that's what you are experiencing.

I was replying to this, the switch on my counsel that makes a little green "A" go on or off, is the auto start stop as I have never seen the hold one, and that's what I thought you were talking about. you confused me in that one. I had to look for the button after your description below haha. there are to many weird little features that are very specific in their use. I still don't see a point to the auto hold button aside from if you have to turn around and get something out of the back. maybe if you were missing a leg it would be handy. the only real thing I can see is for climbing big hills off roading if you have to stop, but I am not even sure about that as I don't know how hard it hits.

Auto Hold is a selection in the main system. I don't like how jerky it is at take off, so we have ours disabled. But the hold button is more like a parking brake. I find it handy at long stops. Waiting for a train, or road construction etc.

To each his/her own. I love this feature; I don't have to hold the brake pedal while waiting for the light to change. The only downside for me is rental cars. If I drive one without auto hold I have to be very, very careful...

I wonder how it would hold up in court if you tried to use "auto hold failed to engage" as your defense if you rear ended the vehicle in front of you or hit a pedestrian crossing the street. Good luck with that.
