Ok if we’re talking summer / 2nd vehicle here, this would be my dream, a FB ad that just popped up here. Sadly these go for enough money nowadays that it doesn’t make sense as a 2nd car.

Now if we’re considering a daily driver with enough modern tech & practicality, I did drive this a couple weeks back now. Pretty nice, it felt like a decent redo of my favorite 2007 F150 (& was about the same price adjusted for inflation oddly enough as I tried a current gen F150 as well). If it was 22 all over again I’d have ordered a Lariat with the 2.7 (this one was XLT & their 24 Lariat had the 2.3)... but…

I’ve been questioning lately & wondering if I don’t need to go for more than Ford offers anywhere in their lineup. Something like this would take me well into retirement with comfort & capability. It’d either be a forever car or hold its value in a trade if not. But at 35% more than the Ranger it also represents a step higher than I’ve ever bothered with in a car before.

If money weren't an issue, I might have gotten a 4 Runner, but then again Toyota's don't get great mileage. If the Ranger's were still a small truck, I might have gotten one of them. I drive a lot of UTV trails and through a lot of steep washes. The short wheelbase and narrow body of the Sport has let me get places I couldn't take my full sized truck without some major scratching, and dragging.

I wish I hadn't sold my Subaru Baja—one of the best cars I ever had. Completely capable offroad, and very dependable. But, I sold it to buy my dream car... a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII with 52,000 miles on it, which I will NEVER sell. A couple of years later, I bought a 2nd Lincoln Mark VIII, a 1994 with 60,000+ miles on it. So, I sacrificed my beloved Baja for some Cobra-powered luxury. I miss you, Baja :(

Well I was talking about beater cars to lust after... but if we're going the way of "I'm not asking what you want for it... just give it to me...now!" crowd... here's mine...

MPG (?) I'm not asking... just have a tanker truck follow me everywhere I go, duh!

So I actually had a full size bronco manual transmission two-door before my baby broncos and it actually wasn't that bad as a daily driver. But yes you will get at least five MPG worse gas mileage I would say at least and I did have the hardtop cuz it was a two-door and I had no options at least then and it was loud over 60 mph but not unbearably so. Also the only thing I didn't like about the manual was the gearing between 5th and 6th. Seemed a little too big and in the mountains it seemed to kind of struggle to do 75 and I either had they go faster and get higher in the RPM range or downshift to 5th and rhe engine out more which I didn't like to do but I loved it and I could have totally lived with it as a daily And the only reason I got rid of it was too high for my dog And at the time we could make using a ramp work plus I hate to say it but I did make nine grand selling it. But that definitely was not the plan when I bought it.
I rarely use 6th gear! Never on roads with it over 70. But then, it’s our backroad/off road vehicle. The Sport is the perfect size for getting in and out. It’s also a great around vehicle. I must say, I got rid of my beater to keep the Sport once the 2 door came in. I do miss my beaters. Have had one almost always.

Man, I'll tell you I love my bronco sport. I love having a new car with all the new stuff but also I would just love to have an old beater with no payment a manual transmission and I can fix just about anything on it on the side of the road with what I carry in the car. And God I just miss a manual transmission so God damn much I think besides my Sierra and my baby broncos I haven't had a car without a manual transmission in forever. I love the 6 (7) speed in the full size bronco and I will say also I only put like 1,500 mi on that thing so it wasn't fully broken in And with these bronco and baby broncos I really baby don't for like the first couple thousand So that's probably another reason why I felt like it didn't quite have enough oomph and I probably should have thrown it down into 5th. But yeah, it's it's hard to beat a beater with no payment you just feel free.

Actually heard that the reviews weren't that good on those new Land Cruisers cuz yeah I was excited about those not that I've driven one or was going to be able to buy one anytime soon but it didn't sound like they were that good, especially for the price. I love the first car that was actually my first car. The 90s bronco. They're just so simple but also feel like a newer car than their year and I do miss the high beams being on the floor. That little button that you press with your left foot And for just a two-door it was just so cavernous inside. And every engine was great it didn't matter If you got the straight six the 5.0 or the 5.8. They were all great engines, although they were all pretty lackluster compared to the power cars have these days, but that's easy enough to fix either with a new top end or for the straight six of turbo. Although I would love to get my hands on one of those straight sixes, I've seen the guys that are taking LS heads and cutting them up and putting them on them, although I don't think anyone's gotten a fully running daily driver one yet. I also have an idea on how to get a roller cam to work in those too, assuming you could get a good grind for it.

I do miss cars that were cavernous on the inside without being cavernous on the outside. It seems that today’s cars have all grown a size class in outward dimensions without offering more usable interior space. I do enjoy modern conveniences though I do kind of long for a 90s Bronco & wonder if you could keep one in repair enough to be an adequate daily. Here I’d have to worry about rust & deterioration too though.

I think the new LC reviews that aren’t that good because people expect them to be the same as the old LC, the one that nobody bought. The new one is quote well reviewed by those who compare it to the 4R which it is, & prefer it to the 4R.

I guess that's probably it.

Yeah I mean I live in Arizona so I don't have to worry about salt and rust as much. And I was actually trying to do a build a while ago right before they introduced the new broncosl is why I didn't do it and I had a line on a really good 92 with no engine and I was just going to put a 4.8 or 5.3 LS in it to keep it simple and then I wanted to do the 6l80 but at the time they only had one place that made a controller for it And it was like a thousand bucks and I would still have to get a standalone on top of it to control the engine. So I probably would have just done a 4L80 just something with an overdrive and honestly probably a gm transfer case too. I really wanted to see if I could put like a 2010 transfer case with the automatic setting in it, but I'd probably just go for a base model with the cable floor shifter to make it simple. Just basically make it all 2000s GM parts underneath that I could easily get at any Auto parts dealer. I might even put a 10 bolt rear axle in with a g80 and disc brakes. Although if I went thru that much trouble, I'd probably just put c-clip eliminators on the stock 8.8 stick with the 3.31 gearing and put an ARB rear locker in it and then I'd probably just do a limited slip up front unless I upgraded to a super duty solid front axle and then I'd put a full locker in the front. But yeah I'd swap out most of the stuff for newer parts underneath. It would be a bit of a build but it would all still be stuff so you could get it at a parts store for the most part. And I'd always thought about putting like a first gen navigator or expedition interior in it too but that would be last.

In theory, that’s what mine is too except it’s way nicer than any of my past beaters. No rust, no dents or dings and no modifications to things that Ford says you can’t drive without!

Depends on the terrain. For forest roads, trails up to level 4-5, it seems fine. The biggest issue is lack of ground clearance, no lower gear, and the felt undergarments used as bas plates! We’ve had ours up on forest roads and a few off road areas. For me, anything spicy, I’d rather be in the full size. It’s not to say it couldn’t scrape it’s way through, but even having 35 inch tires really isn’t even enough these days in many places where 37’s have become the norm and it’s not unusual to see 40’s.
