New here - 2023 OBX ~ 8,000 miles

We purchased our OBX Gold Certified used back in December. It’s been a great little commuter for the last ~ 2,000 miles, but it has developed a pop at low speeds when coming to a stop and while moving in reverse. When coming to a stop in drive, it’s usually just a single pop, sometimes before coming to a full stop and other times after coming to a full stop. While reversing, it can happen 2-3 times. All times is below 5 MPH. Doesn’t seem to matter if the wheel is turned or not. I have a service appointment scheduled for this week. This isn’t related to any shuddering from the transmission or RDU (at least not yet, maybe?). I’m suspecting it could be a few things, but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. Glad to be a part of the BS ownership!

Tell us more about this “pop”.
Isn’t very loud. Best way I can describe it is the sound of releasing a manual park release cable, if that makes any sense. I do feel it lightly in the pedals as well.

Also, the engine mounts may have an issue. Have someone sit in the driver’s seat. Open the hood, start the vehicle. Have the person in the driver’s seat hold the brake down as they shift from park to drive to reverse and back again. Observe the movement of the entire engine.

Have never heard of that sort of sound described as you did. Let us know what the dealership finds out.

Only 8,000 miles on a 2023 vehicle. Why such low miles?

Do you have the auto hold button turned on?
It was a trade in. Originally purchased Sept of 2023, traded in little over a year later, we purchased Dec 2024. From the Carfax report, it looked to be used as a cross country vehicle, wasn’t driven too much, then was traded in. Still had window sticker residue and the glove box sticker on. We’ve put on around ~2200 since. Really no issues and it drives fine. We do have the low-rpm lugging/shudder when putzing around, but I usually just let off gas to let it settle then get back on or put it in sport mode (I think I rather prefer sport mode). My F-150 lugs too, it’s just more refined than the BS (damn Ford transmission tuning).

To answer your question.. Yes, we do use the auto-hold. I originally thought that was it, but would that cause noise when the car is in motion?

Try turning off the auto hold.

I am confused as when this “pop” is sounding. When you start moving or later on?

At what speed does the “pop” happen?

I’ll try that. Sometimes it’ll randomly happen when initially moving from a stop, but it only happens within 0-10 MPH, if that. Like I said, I’ve heard it when the car initially comes to a halt as well. It’s very inconsistent, but is getting more frequent from what I can tell.

So, took my son to daycare this morning without auto-hold on and it was still making the pop intermittently. I have to reschedule my appointment for the dealer, but when I can make it in I will have them inspect the entire driveline to include the motor mounts and struts. It’s still driving great otherwise.

Might be a super dumb question here but have you checked for large rocks, nails, etc. in your tires? My dad was hearing a "popping" sound in his old F-150 years ago (only at slow speeds or coming to a stop) after looking the engine bay over and looking underneath, he discovered a rock in his tire that would pop as it was rolling over the ground and coming back up...

Not a dumb question, I will certainly take a look. I made sure everything was torqued to spec with the lug nuts yesterday, but I will go back and check for debris today.
