Looking for a 3D printed switch panel mount like this to replace the sunglasses holder in my 21 BS OBX. This one is in my cousin's F150.

I've been looking online, but no luck. Any ideas?

Have not seen an aftermarket or anyone post a 3D printed switch panel mount.

It's a good idea but I hate how unfinished 3D printed things look. Needs sanding and painted.

I'm an amateur 3D printer, but that isn't the best example of a finished piece. If you don't look up much, it's probably really fine and functional. I would have ironed the top layer or printed it upside down so that the plate side shows. Interesting idea for a functional item though.

Question:

Since you are into 3 D printing, will those items break down under direct sunlight? If that is true, are there additives that can prevent it? FYI - I had my first few items printed within the last few weeks. The person that made them warned me to keep them out of the sun's rays.

There are a lot of different materials for home/hobby printers. Even a filament printer can opt for nylon, PLA (plastic) and other stuff. Like all plastic, eventually UV will degrade the material. There is a similar but different printer called an SLA or resin printer. Things printed with UV resin are polymers that turn from liquid into plastic by means of UV. The sun will continue to add more UV and over-curing is real and will make the item brittle and shatter.

If you don't know how they were made, typically the plastic filament printer leaves layer lines that are more or less visible like the pic above. The resin printer makes stuff so smooth, you can barely tell it has layers by eye.

Leave the sunglasses holder Nd use some of the void space on dash
